Hey guys,
This is a natural occurance and there is nothing to worry about.? Just leave the gecko alone and it will go back in on it's own.
The sugar water method is commonly used to keep things moist in the case of an intestinal prolapse...this is not the same thing as a hemipene being out and they have absolutely nothing to do with one another.? To put it bluntly, inexperienced people (including veterinarians who are unfamiliar with reptiles) commonly get confused between the two and then pass on advice without really knowing what they're talking about.
Without getting too graphic, it takes a while for the blood in the hemipene to dissipate after the male finishes his job.? That's why it doesn't always go back in right away.? Needless to say, lubing up his weenie and massaging it is not going to help make the swelling go down.? ?

Just for the record, I've produced
thousands of cresteds and have
never once had to step in and do anything to get a male's hemipene to retract.? ?That said, I get at least one email each month from a newbie gecko breeder who's absolutely "sure" that something isn't right.
