Ok, dad is getting pretty frustrated with all the room the geckos take up so was wondering...anyone know a (any) good place(s) that have arboreal AND terrestrial racks? I'm planning on getting a 2.2 group of Viper Geckos soon and would like to also set them up in it, along with having a rack for the youngsters. Better yet, can anyone walk me through the process of creating a good rack? I was thinking about going to walmart, getting some cheap book/CD/DVD shelves that you can adjust the size on, and doing it that way with some sterilite/rubbermaid tubs from there. Only thing that really worries me there is humidity on the pressed wood of those shelves. Could I line them with something?

Really sucks because I really wanted to fix up my reptarium real nice, but now I have to go back to "ghetto gecko" tubs. lol!

if you want a cheaper way to go you can use the breeder tubs i use.  you can get them at dollar general, family dollar, wal mart and most other places like that.  I use the sterlite 66qt and rubbermade should have some big tubs that will work too.  all you have to do is go to home depot or lowes and get a roll of gutter guard for $15, cut holes in the tubs and cover with the gutter guard.  you can cut them on the sides then you can stack them and use way less room that having aquariums.  the tubs are $8 each here.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'd like to get a shelf to put them in, so I don't have to stack them dirrectly on top of each other. Thanks firecrested! I have a few 20 gallon rubbermaids so I'll use those for now.

Well grr...hey, we don't live too far away, remember?  Roll Eyes Is it just like the last one you got? I might be able to get a rack thing at work (actually, I can...but don't think I can fit 20 gallon tubs in it).

it's different than the other one.? This one is nicer, it's a little longer so it will fit more tubs in it and it has locking wheels so you can just push it when you need to move it.? The other one is just so heavy and is a pain to take apart so i'm just going to keep it and throw out this one, it's just holding my junk now

this is it halfway put together. it has 2 more shelfs and a top piece where you can put a sign.? if you can find someone to pick it up you can have it.

I'll see if I can find someone to, but I doubt anyone will. Thanks!!
I found these though, which I can use for all my critters. The long one + the one short one = 45" a space, which means my bearded dragon tanks (just two) will stick out the sides just a tad (the will be 48" long), only problem though is the depth. I'll just have to stack them with the 1 long + 1 short, and have 2 levels. Top level will have to be the bearded dragons. Under that, the viper geckos on one and crested geckos on the other. Then I'll probably get two of those racks that hold the kritter keeps for crestie and viper hatchlings, as both are REALLY small. As they grow, I'll have another shelf with 10 gallons and 5 gallons. Cresties will go in the 10 gallons and Vipers in the 5 gallons. Oh! And bellow the bottom shelf of the 1 with vipers I'll have my sisters leopard...MAYBE. She has a little desk for her right now, but she may be moved to my mom's house once I get everything set up here. I'm going to go try to plan this out more in depth for myself...lol!

Ok, how does this sound?

I'll get 4  Crested Gecko Enclosures (last ones on page)

Then, two of THESE

And then one of THESE

The Crested Gecko tanks will be stacked into two columns, all four fitting onto the last little shelf (16" X 30" X 14").
The first shelf thing (54" X 36" X 14") will be used like this:
  • Bottom Row= Four ten gallon tanks (24" X 9" X 13") each, placed vertically for sub-adult-adult cresties housed singly
  • Second Row= Four 5.5 gallon tanks (17" X 9" X11") each, for sub-adult-adult viper geckos housed singly
  • Third Row= Two 10 gallon tanks (24" X 9" X 13") each, for breeder viper geckos, housed singly until breeding, then females moved to male tanks
  • Top Row= One 40 gallon long tank (48" X 24" x 12") each, for Bearded Dragons

Also will get two of THESE for hatchling Cresties and Vipers

What do you think? It will take some saving but I believe I can do it eventually. Just need to stick to basics now. First on my list, get two 40 gallon long tanks for my bearded dragons (the 40 breeders just don't seem big enough for me  Grin), then the shelves (big ones first)...then the small shelves, then the Crested Gecko Tanks, and so on. The small tanks and kritter keeps will be the cheapest (besides the one small shelf)

i'd just get the black metro units instead. they are super versitle and what i use now. worth every penny. why don't you put your bottom shelf as the "seond shelf" and use the floor as a shelf instead?

Thanks! I think I'll do that. Here's my modified plan:
First 2 Racks (placed side by side)
  • Floor under First Shelf: 4 of the Crested Gecko tanks for breeder crested geckos
  • First shelf: 3 Ten gallon tanks (the second one will have to be on both rack one and two) for breeder viper geckos, males seperate and females sharing a tank
  • Second Shelf: Either nine 5 gallon tanks, or larger kritter keepers/sterilite bins for sub-adult cresties and sub-adult to adult vipers
  • Third Shelf: First rack, Food and Supplies...Second rack, incubators (2 hovobators and then some just incubating in "fishing tackle boxs", which make great incubators for cresties, and hopfully vipers)
  • Last Shelf: Miss Priss and Part of Damien's tank
3 Rack, placed beside 2nd rack
  • Floor under First Shelf: Four verticle 10 gallon tanks for adult/sub-adult cresties
  • First Shelf: Either four 5 gallon tanks or some large kritter keepers/sterilite bins for sub-adult/adult vipers and sub-adult cresties
  • Second Shelf: Same as First Shelf
  • Third Shelf: Incubators and "fishing tackle box" incubators
  • Top Shelf: Rest of Damien's tank and silkworms
The breeder crested gecko tanks will have a mixture of Eco-Earth and Coco Fiber, pet grass, moss, and either a bromlead plant or some pothos vine (each will look different) The grass and moss will hopfully keep females from laying in the soil, and I'll have one of THESE in each tank will spaghnum moss and eco-earth for laying substrate.

The breeder viper gecko tanks will have ceramic tile as substrate and I may build a nice rock wall in the back for them to enjoy (they like hiding in small crevices in rock). I'll have some hides and the lay box will be the same as the crested gecko on, except with Eco-Earth and Playsand mixture.

The hatchling racks and all other tanks will have shelf liners as susbtrate, fake plants, and hides. The will, in the future, be heated by heat tape and a thermostat. It's going to cost a lot, but will pay off in the end.

  • First Shelf: Three 11" H X 24" W X 9" D tanks for Viper Gecko Breeders (males seperate and females share one)
  • Second Shelf: Nine 11.75" x 7.75" x 8" Kritter Keepers (mediums) for sub-adult/adult Viper Geckos
  • Third Shelf: Food and Supples (kritter keeps with mealworms, silkworms, flightless fruit flies, and crickets; CGD; Vitamins and Calcium)
Shelf Rack Three
  • Floor Beneath First Shelf: Four 24" H X 9" W X 11" D for Sub-Adult/Adult Crested Geckos
