So let me preface this by saying i have had a cold for the past few days. Today I lost my voice, so just picture anything I say being said in a super raspy chipmunk whisper squeak thing. I also have a chihuahua who is not allowed anywhere near the geckos because she always acts like she is going to bite them.

We have been waiting for this one little hatchling to come out for awhile (112 days!) We are leaving thursday to go out of town for a day or 2 and i was worried the little egg would hatch while we were gone. I checked the egg last night, and it was super big but to me it looked like hatching was about a day or 2 away.

When I got up this morning I heard a mouse in my wall, so i was pulling out drawers in my kitchen to check the tray of mouse poison i have back there. Im laying drawers on my floor, not paying any attention whatsoever to where i am placing them. After a few minutes I start putting drawers back. When i get to the last drawer I start freaking out- there where the floor and the baseboard meet was a little gecko hatchling! I start "screaming" (remember i lost my voice?) and just going crazy.

We keep the egg in a deli cup on top of my males 18" tall cage, which is on top of my waist high dresser in the bedroom. My deli cup lid doesnt close all the way. Well this little nut somehow pushed the lid aside (it was half off when i found it) climbed out of the deli cup, down the cage, down the dresser, across my floor, under the closed door, and into my kitchen, which just so happens to be where my dog sleeps. I even got up to use the bathroom last night.  Shocked I counted like 5-10 different things that could have killed that gecko in the time he was out. The thanks i get for saving the little guy: a big giant bite on my finger!

Anyway despite his crazy adventures last night he is doing well, super fiesty. he is large, same size as the other 2 babies who hatched out 2 months ago.
