How do you guys get rid of your fruit flies? I have NO idea how they keep coming back..we change the food/water regularly and they still somehow show up out of nowhere. The bugs that freak me out the most are the teeny ones because I always imagine them being in my food, drinks, and I'll never know it. It's not like we're infested, but even the occasional one drives me crazy, not to mention guests think we're gross Wink

I know SOMEONE ELSE must have this problem. We made the mistake of liking our "natural" terrariums with soil, but even when it's changed out regularly they're still around! We can't use poison, obviously, what do we do??

Okay-you want to give them something they like even MORE than CGD.

Here is my plan-based on a product that I bought at a very high price.

This is a picture of the original product I bought from Home Depot for $10 a pair-http://www.wayfair.com/Contech-2-Pack-Fruit-Fly-Trap-FRUITFLY162-CTH1015.html

The original is about as big as a toddle-sized baby food jar.  Theirs also features a sticky paper, but this is not needed.  The fruit flies collect in the bottle, you dump it when you get a bunch, and you replace the bait liquid as needed.  Their "refills" are more than that cost of the original trap!

Take an empty water bottle and poke two holes into the side right across from each other.

Take a plastic straw, and cut a little hole-the size of a hole-punch-into it.

Push the straw through the holes of the bottle so the punch-sized hole is inside, and the ends stick out the sides.

Pour about 1/2 an inch of fruit juice, beer, or wine into the bottom of the bottle, re-cap it, and place it in your gecko area.
