So i saw some ants in the gecko cage this morning, so i start removing decoration and digging in the dirt to see how bad the ant issue was (not very bad at all, got them to all leave pretty easy) and i found an EGG! burried in the substrate for probably about 2 months.

i have no clue if its fertile or not. It is mildly yellow, but i think that was caused by being burried so long. I tried to candle it, but the shell is pretty thick and i couldnt see much. Im gonna put it in with the other egg and see what happens. this one had to have been laid before the other i have, so if it is fertile its probably close to hatching i would think.

I would think since the ants were going for it that it may already be molding slightly, incredible that its not.

the ants were actually just going for the CGD, they didnt make it as far down as lacey likes to burry her eggs. actually when i was changing out the substrate this evening i found another egg burried in there. the second one is a little bigger then the first!

the one is kinda yellow, so i dont know if its gonna hatch or not. It isnt shriveled or anything, just yellower. both of them are bigger around then the first i had, so they were both fertile and growing at one point in time. I will try to post pics later

Lots of times, the eggs pick up the color of the lay box material they're laid in, so ignore the color and keep incubating!!

I use sphagnum moss in my lay boxes, and some of it's green, so I frequently have green-tinged eggs...others have a pale tan color from the un-dyed moss.

yeah i figured thats what happened. they were burried in eco earth, its like coconut fiber, about 3 inches, so i had a hunch the color was from months in dirt.

Yeah, my are the same way. I have part coco fiber part virmilicite lay boxes.
A lot of my eggs even have had calcium problems and like weird little design on them, not like solid white and smooth like eggs are suppose to be and mine still have made it to between 60-120 days and hatched out perfectly healthy babies  Grin

And congrats, random new eggs are always a treat!!

its kinda nice to have them because then i have an idea how long the third will take to hatch, they were laid about a month before the other one. The final one i found got bounced around and rolled around a bit, so im a little worried about it, but it has grown in size a little since i found it so it might be ok

It should be fine.

The eggs seem to be just as resilient as the geckos that come out of them.

well the final egg is no the biggest. I swear its growing by the day. you can see groing marks in the egg. (where it grows forms new clean egg and so there are clean "stretch marks" in the dirt)

If they hatch in the next 10 days or so i will be pretty happy. That would be about 75 days incubating time.

Awesome!!

Yeah-the stretch marks are common as the egg grows to accommodate the growing baby.

my gecko room stays about 72-75 during the day and about 64-68 at night. With those temps what kind of incubation time should i expect?
