ive heard that it takes a gecko 2 years to reach minimum breeding weight. Im wondering how long it will take for my lacey to reach 35g, she is 23 now.

And I do know that 35g is the minimum weight, im gonna weight till shes 40g or so, but i just wanna know how, much longer it will take.

It's really hard to say how long it will take because there are a lot of factors involved.  The best way to have her put on weight is house her alone, feed her bugs (crickets/dubia) weekly and keep up the CGD. Warmer temps help maintain a good appetite so thi is the right time of year for it.

I've had the same problem right from the start.

That, and males who don't drop  bulge until they're breeding size.

I've been giving strictly CGD to all of them for quite a while, but that's not working.

I'm going to go back to supplementing them with wax worms and crickets again.

Going feeder shopping tomorrow.

BUT-today I had the strangest thing happen.

I've been feeding off the last of my "original" flavored CGD, and today I finally opened the new peach flavor.

I've NEVER seen such a feeding response in my life!!

All 36 had faces in bowls and bottle caps, slurping and guzzling peach CGD.

I'm NEVER going back to the "original" flavor again!!!

In fact, some of them were so enthusiastic that they nipped Katey when she gave them a taste on their nose!

Maybe a change in flavor can entice your kids to eat more??

Good luck with them!!

Donna, that flavor thing is good to know!  My gargs and saras LOVE the original flavor mixed 1:1 with the Phelsuma MRP (fig and cherry) but the cresteds haven't enjoyed it quite as much.  Looks like it's time to order some peach...

For sure!!

And I've noticed that when the banana gets a couple days old, it REEKS!!!

Katey and I both gag when we clean the gecko dishes or have to wipe the tanks down if somebody "finger-paints".

It's just GROSS.

I want to supplement with bugs this year too. just for hatchlings and juves though. when Jeff found out about the crickets he flipped on me, so maybe I'll do wax worms again. seems to me last time no one wanted to eat them though, and they were a bit big for the hatchlings to tackle.

or maybe I should continue with the two weeks and just not say anything? I normally don't keep things from my husband...but he had no idea there were 30 geckos in the basement until I sold half at the show. It was pretty funny. He asked me how many I sold and when I answered him he was like "WHAT? How many are LEFT?!" I think he thought I just had four or five adults lol. Not my fault he hasn't been keeping track, right?  Lips Sealed

Haha, this is great.  This thread is an endles loop of enablers!!

As we speak, I have 4 gargs, 1 crested and 1 sara that my wife is not aware of.  The orginal 2 saras she knows about were in my office at work in an exo-terra for about a month until she stopped by for a visit and discovered them. I slowly introduce her to these acquisitions over time after I make a case for them and then they magically appear without me having to buy additional tanks.

This is much easier to do when my geckos are laying constantly in warmer months.  In my defense, there are some deals (like $100 for a sub-adult sarasinorum) that are too good to pass up and would take too much time to explain while someone else buys my male breeder. Also, I need to stop accidentally browsing herp classifieds...

I go on to compare what people charge for similar geckos to mine, usually getting ready for a show or just out of curiousity.  Before you know it, there's an eye catching title that sucks me in. Never happened to you? I've had to talk myself out of SO MANY impulse buys. PayPal makes things a little too easy sometimes.

Impulse buys lol...I have 2 reptile shows within fifteen minutes from my house every month....theres nothing more impulsive than finding a beautiful gecko from a little no-body-ever-heard-of-them breeder because you feel like youll never ever gain access to that gecko again, at least breeders like AC wont disappear into thin air haha

I mean look at my quote...it's totally true.  Wink
