Ok so the new olive female I just got from crownjewel http://www.crownjewelreptiles.com/animals/view/350
just laid eggs from this male http://www.crownjewelreptiles.com/animals/view/167

First look at the eggs I was almost sure they were not good because they are somewhat "patchy" looking, almost like the hard sold white is in patches around the eggs but not covering the whole egg.
Second look, I see small redish rings in both eggs despite their odd appearance.

Anyone know what's going on, like maybe she didnt have enough calcium??
Anyone think they eggs could survive to full term even in their weird form?

Probably is calcium--but I have had eggs like that hatch and the babies were healthy, if a little smaller than normal.

i had a female lay 2 clutches like you described last year. it was her first season laying eggs so i figured her shelling glad was still getting warmed up. only the first 2 ended up hatching, but i did have a bad heatwave for about a week (80-85*), nothing hatched after that happened so i think the heat got the second clutch.

is this your females first season laying eggs?

Yeah I messaged the breeder and she just laid her first duds not too long ago and then was in with the male for a while before she shipped out to me.

*crossing fingers that they hatch*

Thanks for the responses  Cheesy

This is usually associated with calcium.  Sometimes the eggs come out gritty or patchy.

Don't dump them until they shrivel though.  I'm sure they are no good but you never know.  Likely, the uneven shell thickness is what caused them to turn. (unless they were duds from the get go but I recall that you mentioned you saw red in them.)

I've had eggs like that.  Most of mine make it full term then die in the egg.  Sounded fertile to me, but the improper calcification of the egg makes the embryos more sensitive to heat and humidity.  The incubation is trickier, but you still have a chance to hatch them. Good luck!

Unfortunate, but then again exactly what I was expecting.

Nice.  I am away for a while but not forgotten Grin LOL. Actually, this saying rang true for me recently.  One of my Reeves turtles laid eggs.  The eggs were hardshelled like a chicken egg (Most turtle species tend to lay eggs that are more leathery and a hard egg is usually just a residual one that calcified a bit)  I incubated the 4 eggs anyway and have 3 gorgeous baby Reeves Turtles now.  Evidently- they lay hardshelled eggs.

You won't.  If they want to they'll breed themselves!!

Well right now they literally have no where to lay eggs...just a collection of floating platforms and logs
oddly enough they are actually housed with a mississippi map ...
