So i have one gecko who is driving me bananas when it comes to determing sex. We thought it was a boy at first, but then we couldnt see pores, so we thought it was a male. Now at 13-15 grams i think i might see a buldge starting to form. I have tried using my loupe to see pores, but i cant tell for sure. I tried donna's scanner idea and i still couldnt tell.

Some days i think i see spores, other days i dont. His/her belly has spots too, so that doesnt help. Is there another way to tell or do i just have to wait to see if the buldge gets bigger? I have another male in the same cage, but they dont fight, so its not a big issue right now. (another reason we thought girl)

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Cresties!!

Toblerone did the same thing to us. Got HUGE, and no package.

Katey saw pores, I couldn't see pores with my eyes if I had a dog, a cane, and a microscope.

Tony Terradas couldn't see pores, and neither could about three other people.

Suddenly last summer:  a BIG HONKIN' BULGE.

He must have had "the boys" tucked and taped up!!

His name is now Miss Vida Boheme.  If you're not familiar with the name, Google "To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar."

You don't have a boy or a girl, YOU HAVE A DRAG QUEEN.

Well, I looked, and couldn't see a freakin' thing. But I'm half blind.

Katey eye-balled it, and said if it were closer and not side-ways, MAYBE she could tell.

What you see as a bulge, is more like the fat end of the tail, I think.

I had thought of that too.

like i said, i cant see spores, but i thought if you could see the buldge then we could go by that. either way, there are no fights going on with my male Kaiden, so its really fine either way

Maybe if you can get a real tight shot of the crotch we can tell...or rather, Katey can tell.

She's got the eyes of a hawk.

Just go for the crotch and use the macro setting.

It's a digital camera setting.  Sorry!

Your camera might still have a macro setting even if its a point and shoot.  Usually on the spin dial of options (where you can choose sport, landscape, or portrait) its usually represented by a flower.  What the macro setting does is tell your camera that you are taking pictures of something small and up close.  Macro helps it know where to autofocus because with the AUTO setting your camera is going to try to autofocus farther away since the average picture isn't taken with the camera less than a foot away from the subject.

oh ok, my old camera had the wheel, the new one autofocuses and does pretty good, i just cant get the gecko to hold still worth a darn. Even with a loupe I see about as much detail as you do in the photo, its sad. I think its because there is so much dotted pattern on the belly. thanks for trying though
