Ok so I have two females that I bought together a year and a half ago, they lived together when I got them and have ever since.  I tried separating them initially because they were 10 grams different but they stopped eating and started to lose weight so they went back together after a month.  They have always gotten along great despite their size difference but a couple nights ago I caught them fighting.  I actually thought it was stray cats fighting outside when I first woke up because I never heard squawking like that before, it lasted over a minute!  It didn't seem like there was much damage done until I got a closer look at their mouths.  At first I thought it was eco earth from their enclosure but it didn't wipe away, all I can think of is they are jaw injuries from fighting.  It goes without saying that I have separated them into different cages I just wanted to get other's opinions on it.

Actually, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would!

I would put a tiny bit of Neo-Sporin on the areas and keep an eye on it.

Should I neosporin put on it?  The marks are on their gums and I don't think neosporin should be ingested.  They kinda look like blood blisters or burst blood vessels but I don't really know.  As you can see in the first picture they're lips don't meet where the marks are so they are probably a little swollen.  They are both eating still so I don't think its that bad but I was very concerned when I first saw it.

You know what?

I use Neo all the time on dogs, cats, and geckos, and at times, they lick it off.  Especially the cats.

They're all still alive and kicking.

If you just dab a tiny speck on with a Q-tip, it would help protect the wounds.

Or maybe a weak Nolvansan solution...on a Q-tip.

Not like you can get them to gargle... Tongue  And even if you could, I can't think of any oral rinse they'd take kindly to.  Especially NOT Listerine, which would be one of the better ones.

I was a certified oral surgical assistant for a few years until my shoulder blew out.

To me, they look like an oral "scab"...like a blood-clot that forms when a tooth is pulled or when you have oral surgery and have an incision...but along a line, rather than in an empty socket.

Thanks Donna!  I'm glad it looks kinda identifiable.  I will give them a dab, I've used it on a tail before but he didn't lick at it and it wasn't something I wanted to risk without some background knowledge.  Perhaps Listorine should come out with a cricket flavor  Wink although fruit would probably be just as tempting.

Keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating consistently. If it gets worse you may want to take her to the vet. I was in the same predicament with a donation about 2 years ago. I hope she has a fast recovery.

Its actually 2 geckos with the marks.  The top two pictures are of Terra my red and the bottom two are of Mab my tiger.  I checked them over again last night and Mab's mark on the left of her face, picture 3, is gone, she's still got it on the right though.

Just realized i never gave an update on these two.  The marks disappeared bit by bit and were completely gone after a week.  Mab's lost a few grams in the month they've been separated but nothing drastic and she kinda needed a bit of weight off anyway, she was getting to be quite the chunker at 52g.
