ok, so I don't have tons of experience with snakes, but this strikes me as weird.  My male carpet is showing no signs of shedding (no greyish color, no cloudy eyes), but he is shedding scales one by one... I havn't see this before.  I've seen the tough shed, but not without any other signs of shedding... any idea what this is from?  Is this something to worry about?  (the humidity fluctuates with misting; fresh water for soaking available all the time).
thanks!

WOW!!

I've never heard of that before!!  I wish I knew what to tell you, but I'm clueless!!

Have you tried the python forums at FaunaClassifieds?  I'm sure there are lots of people there who can help you.  Off-hand, I can think of a couple-Utta and Polasian (he's Aunty Nick here, but he's not on very often)-who can help you out.

I really hope this helps you and your snakie!!

if it looks like "normal" shed coming off in chunks, it could be your humidity is too high for him to slough it off properly so he's rubbing it off as best he can. if what's coming off doesn't look like normal shed, just take him to the vet.
my carpet with go nice and blue for a few days, then for a day or maybe two there will be no sign she's in shed (clear eyes etc) other then she's hiding and stays in her hide. then, at the end of that day or the next, i find a nice new full shed in the tank.

Update: he stopped shedding like that when I upped the humidity in the tank and "soaked" him for about 1/2hr wrapped in a warm, moist towel.  He is now looking like he is going to have a normal shed.  I guess the humidity was too low for them... AC had suggested on his site that his snakes did ok with lower humidity so I tried that to kill off some growing fungus... I guess it doesn't work with all snakes.  He's all happy now (was grumpier when he was too dry.

Now my only mission is to find my little AWOL girl whom } had forgotten to take out of my hood before I put my sweater down while I was atttending to the animals... good news is that she pooped down the fridge, 1so I am assuming that she is hiding out in the kitchen somewhere.  I checked the back of the fridge thinking she may be there for warmth, but it turns out that the fridge in this apt has a closed-in back... would there be an opening on the bottom of the back where she could get up there?

WOW!!

I hope you find your little one!!

I'd open the door and look at the bottom for a "drawer type" thingy...it usually catches any dripping.  She might be in there!

You might have to remove a bottom grate...but it just pops off.

Sugar cane had shed issues again.  This time he had what looked like 3+ layers of shed to get off.  My wife and I helped with that process, and he seemed very relieved to be out of his hight "clothes."  I'm not sure what's causing all the shedding issues, but it seems universal in my collection, so I'm guessing it's a husbandry thing.  I'e been playing with the individual levels for everyone, but I still can't seem to get it right.  There's something with that room that screws up the heat & humidity levels.  I din't have that problem before we moved here.

I ended up finding Tanguerey.  She was curledup on the beardie tank one morning out in the living room.  I caught her off gaurd and dropped her back into her house.  Smiley

Glad you found your kid!!

Have you tried one of the shed sprays?

There's also aloe gel...I've only used it on geckos, but I'd think it would help hydrate the skin of snakes, too.
