Fudging a tank

Just wondering if anyone's ever tried turning a 20 gallon high all glass aquarium onto its side to make it taller. Any reprucusions, broken glass, screen bending etc.?

Yep, all my crested tanks are turned on end to make them taller.

i used to make my own screens, screw on thumb latches and call it good.
until....
Cicada Hollow told me about some premade screens that pinch over the tanks lip and hold well. i love 'em. they're a little more pricey then doing it myself, until i factor in time and labor. they're available in most standard tank sizes.

you can buy clips that hold them on
the cheesy "C" shaped ones should be fine, but i still prefer the thicer "L" shaped clips

these are the c shaped ones
http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/screen-lids/-/small-screen-clips/
and i gave up looking for the other type so no pic of those
almost any store that sells lids will have the clips to go with it as well, so finding them should be easy

those work too. my cages are close togeather and i don't like having to squeeze my fingers between to undo the clamps, so that's why i use the frontal latches instead.
not a great image of the L shaped ones:
