Right now I'm currently breeding Cresties, but have been looking into BPs for quite some time.
I was wondering where do you start?
Like what morphs are good to start with, how many is a good number to buy at first, etc?

I've never bred BP's, but a friend has tried, and she told me that all her spider bp's (and her research on them) has come up with them being more prone to a neurological issue that causes their heads to flop backwards.  Def check this out with experienced breeders and do some research on it, but just wanted to let you know what I've heard.  She told me b/c I adopted a spider bp at the last NY show as a pet only.  She has a huge over-bite, and I guess it's pretty common in her line b/c the breeder said it has happened to at least 2 other snakes in that line.  Just ask a lot of questions from the breeder and find out any possible diseases or defects that happen in the line of the animals you want to buy from.  And make sure you find a reputable breeder.

I'm hoping to breed ball pythons next season for the first time and I've been keeping them for 6 years.

Start with one ball python, preferrably a female for breeding potential, (if you don't have any) and raise it up for a year. You dont' want to jump in and get a bunch of snakes only to realize you made a mistake. I grew my collection very slowly and that has proved for the best as I have had a lot of time to learn about ball pythons through experience.

I'd recommend first researching your favorite morphs and combos. Find out what you would need to buy to produce these animals. Look for quality examples of the morphs!!!  Selective breeding is the way to go Wink
Common starter choices are pastels, spiders, pinstripes, etc. to be bred to normals. Just go with what you like!

Also, look up the deformities found in certain morphs. Caramels are prone to kinks, spiders wobble, cinnamon and black pastel supers are prone to duck billing, etc. Make sure you are aware of the risks.

I'm really hoping to someday produce axanthic bumble bees, queen bees, killer queen bees, etc...i think you get the point that i really enjoy the different bumble bee morphs  Cheesy

I don't know if I should start with a normal morph or try and buy like a bumble bee to start..?

And does anyone know of good books that can teach you all about morphs and specific how to breeding books that can explain genetics and such?

I just picked up my first BP at a reptile show on Sunday. He's a 2010 Lesser and beautiful. Today, he got his first meal with me, which he ate zealously.
I have a female spider on hold right now and should have her paid off in about a month.

BP's are just as addicting as cresties!!!

I might even be giving my aquatic turtles away to fit more cresties and BPs...and possibly a small rat breeder colony!

If you areserious about giving those guys new homes, I might be able to help out in a couple of months. I am in the process of starting up a pet care, rescue & education center.  Still in the very preliminary stages, but hope to be up and running within the year.  Business plans are just a bitch to write, and I have to convincce my lending institution that it is a worth-while venture... and it will be a non-profit... lots of work ahead, but would love to havesome turtles as residents. Smiley

Awww well one of them I actually rescued
He/She is a mississippi map who a friend of mine had picked up off a road and thrown into his fish tank. After six months of the little one living there I snatched him out because the fish were chewing off his tail and nipping at his feet.
He still has some scars, but seems healthy otherwise.
The other two I bought from a breeder as babies, they're Reeve's turtles  Cheesy
