is it ok to just feed mealworms to leos their whole lives? i dont mind feeding crickets but i dont like breeding them either its too much trouble lol but im already breeding mealworms so is it ok? and if anyone knows about mealworms, can the beetles also be used as food just wondering....

You can raise leopard geckos on mealworms. I did for years, and I know a few of the big name breeders do it too. (If I remember right, Tremper does) As long as you properly supplement, everything should be fine. But put it this way: would you want to eat only one food your whole life? Variety is good for them, so while mealies are fine as a base, throw in some variety regularly. As for the beetles, almost nothing will eat them. They apparently don't taste very good.

Hedgehogs like to eat the beetles. We had one last year and started a mealworm colony for him and he didn't mind worm or beetle.  It just had to be slow or dead because he wasn't very good at hunting, crickets were waayyy out of his league! Roll Eyes The beetles are just higher protein and fiber and less fat.

Nice, never knew that about hedgehogs. Used to have sugar gliders, they liked superworms but wouldn't touch the beetles.

Roach nymphs are more nutirtional and phoenix worms are more balanced. There are more options out there. Best of luck.
