I picked up a crestie from Petco on Black Friday and she's not doing well. I returned from a short trip to find her looking thin, dehydrated and with white feces dried and caked on her vent. I've put her in a little deli-cup sauna once a day for the past 3 days and she looks better, but still thin.

She hasn't shown a particular interest in food since I bought her and is not looking well right now. I haven't seen her stalk crickets and she seems to have little interest in CGD. I'm going to pick up some mealworms on the way home in case that's what she had at Petco.

She is a GORGEOUS little harley and if anyone has tips on encouraging feeding or taking care of this condition, please let me know!!

What's the temperature? Warming them up a little seems to help a bit for me.

I doubt that the little guy will eat mealworms if he isnt eating crickets. i have never been able to get any of my cresties to eat mealworms or wax worms. besides warming the little guy up a bit,  I would try GENTLY force feeding it some CGD using a small syringe (without the needle attached lol), just a little bit each day.

I am not sure if you will be able to find this stuff anymore (it was recently discontinued) but you may want to try getting some N-fix. the little guy could have some internal parasites. I dont know if a baby gecko can handle a full dose of N fix, so if you do find some i would try mixing it 50/50 with regular CGD.

Here are pics of the sicky after she came out of her sauna tonight. She still has some condensation on her.  I tried E-fix with some honey and she only took very tiny licks off her nose, no full laps with her whole tongue and she all but ignore the food on the Qtip and in the dish.

See the skinny neck and snout. You can't tell from this angle, but she has a skinny "waist" too

And you can kind of see the sunken eyes in this pic

I left her to rest a little in her critter keeper with the food.  I'm going to try the syringe approach and see how it goes...

Poor pretty little thing!!

I'd get the Pedialyte into her.  You can even use it to mix the CGD-I'd use 1/2 water & 1/2 Pedialyte.

I'm cautiously optimistic.  This morning I found regular, healthy poo in her tank.  I'm going to keep up with the pedialite and e-fix to make sure the progress continues.  Thanks for all the help!

crossing my fingers for your little one.  hope he pulls through ok.  the pedialyte worked recently for my iguana... there were other problems, but the pedialyte helped with the dehydration.

Good luck!  Maybe Petco was feeding only a certain food and she had not been exposed to CGD before? I know some of those shops will use it where others in their chain won't.

I used to work at that store and they are inconsistent with using the MRP.  I finally gave up fighting about the correct care.  I've definitely noticed a difference with cresteds I bought from breeders versus stores.  It seems like it's so much more work getting store-bought cresteds on a healthy diet.

So far the extra TLC is working for this one.  I'm keeping a close eye on her still, but she is active and has very sticky toe-pads which I've always considered a good sign when it comes to health matters.

Probably because it's just easier to toss in a handful of crickets to each cage.

Good news at last!

The crestie is definitely recovering! Yesterday I tossed in a few crickets and the feeding response was immediate. She went right for it unlike the previous attempt where she looked and lost interest.

Thanks for all your help!

whenever any of mine seem to not want to eat I will gently dip their nose in the food dish and get some of the food on the tip of the nose. A little less forceful then the syringe approach, and always seems to work for me. After a couple of dips, I can usually get them to start eating CGD on their own. Always seems to be more of an issue with pet store cresties that were raised on crickets.
