I think the better breeders go for better color/patterns over quantity of females. When I first started I had some ugly females

. I had a brownish olive, buckskin and the only nice one was the partial pinstripe that i still have now.
I would take a smaller group of high end cresteds over a bunch of average ones anyday.
It's not impossible for him to get 60% but that's not normal. Like you said he was probably lucky and just picked the right ones. Unless it was a "fish story"
