Saw this thread on pangea and thought I'd link it here for those who aren't over there.  I'm not registered so I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't stumbled un it.  Person had a egg deflate and die two weeks after expected hatching so she opened the egg and the little gecko had a strange lump on his head.  The pictures are very interesting, warning: they are of a dead baby gecko so don't click if your not comfortable with that.  It's a sad situation but it was neat to see how he was curled up in the egg.

It is an odd looking baby for sure. The whole head is a bit off from the normal look. Guess it is better for the gecko it did not hatch from the egg
only to suffer and pass on later.

wow that is interesting. Maybe the bump on his head was some kind of tumor or something.

Something similar happened to me, but I had assumed it might be the way the skull develops embryologically. That actually does look more like a tumor or something.
