Hi,

Bought this guy a few hours ago. I'm excited to have my first reptile be such a chill little critter. I'd like to know what morph he is and how he looks. He's very active and ate a couple of crickets and half a teaspoon of CGD no problem. I was worried he might have eaten a little piece of substrate with the cricket but I'm not sure...he seems fine though. Would that happen? Also, the patch of skin that didn't shed off has been on there since I picked him up at the store. Should it have fallen off?

Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it!

Welcome to Ciliatus, and welcome to your new addiction!!

Congratulations on your first reptile pet!!  He's a cutie!!

Yes!!  They ARE fascinating little guys!!

Your gecko is a flame dalmatian.  Probably a reddish-rust color when he/she grows into it's adult colors.!!

Glad hear that you're feeding Crested Gecko Diet!!  It really IS the best food for him. Like breast milk for human infants.

Crickets a cool for snacks, but try to make the CGD the primary meal.

The best way to get stuck shed off him is to give him a "gecko sauna"

Take the deli cup he came in, or a GladWare container, fold a paper towel into it, and add enough warm water to make it soggy.

Add the gecko and leave him there 15 to 20 minutes.

Take him out and help to peel the loose skin off, being extra careful with the tail, "socks" and "gloves".

To prevent him from getting stuck shed in the future, mist him tank twice a day.

If you need any more info, feel free to ask!!

That's what we're all here for!!

Thanks so much for your help!

I gotta say this forum is much more polite, welcoming, and respectful than most fora on the internet. So thanks! I'm looking forward to learning a lot...and I will probably be buying at least one more...I'd like him/her to have a friend.

One more question...how often should I handle him when he's young? He actively runs away from me when I'm trying to pull him out of the cage but he seemed to have a good time once he was out and about. Should I handle him often to "get him used to the idea" ?

Thanks again! I'm also amazed at how unique and fun the gecko culture is...its like owning fancy cars or pure bred dogs and showing them off! Everyone has some really cool ones on here

One more question...he has a white line on his lips and I'm not sure if it's normal. Is it an infection or anything?

You can see it in the first pic of my original post, thanks!

The white line is normal for juvies. Mine usually lose that as they develop their adult coloration.
