I just bought 2 beautiful cresties. Problem though...the breeder feed them a lot!!
The females is 2-3 years old and very cubby like extra folds of skin and double chin. It's cute, but scary and very unhealthy.
The male is younger about a year. He looks like he just started putting on extra weight around the bottom of his belly.
Anyway how can I help them lose weight in a safe way?

Only feed a small amount maybe every third day.

ya right now I feed my other sub-adult/adult every other day and the juvie every day.
once she's settled into her new home, will breeding help her lose some weight?

More than likely. I'd also probably say avoid feeding any insects, as they usually cause mine to beef up.

I was thinking about feeding insects only like twice a month just to give some protein and more of a treat. To help my growing geckos I was thinking maybe crickets once a week in place of cgd?
I want them to grow up strong and reach breeding size in about a year to a year and half without making them fat.
Btw will the chubby geckos skin go back to normal..or is it like human where once it has stretched it's near impossible to get it back to where is was?

are you sure she's obese? maybe you should post a pic. a little bit of chin is sometimes good on a female. What's her gram weight and SVL (snout to vent Length) All my females drop a few grams every breeding season, that why it can be good tohave a bit of heft on them between breeding.

That's true.

she has more than just a chin...thats from back when i got her..
now she's still not really eating so she's losing a lot of weight...
now i'm scared even though it makes no sense for her to starve herself to death.

I think she may just be adjusting still. I'd offer her CGD every other day for the next couple if weeks and at least wait for her to settle before changing anything up. Could be that feeding a normal amount is just what she nerds to get straightened out
