I haven't posted here in forever and I am actually getting out of cresties, but I would like some input on a this topic.  Smiley

When I incubated my geckos I always did it at very low temps, 72-74 degrees. I think it was like 70 or 90 days to hatch, I can't remember right now, but I remember it being at the high end of the scale. Anyways almost all of the geckos I produced seemed to be female; I sold a group of about 25 juvies/babies along with my breeders awhile back. All the offspring at that point were female(at least it looked that way to me). I thought it was kind of strange that they all turned out female.

I held two back from the group I sold. I did this because they were too small to ship at the time  I sold my group and because I couldn't imagine a time without cresties.  Tongue haha

Anyways both of these guys are actually female. It seems strange to me that I didn't produce a single male gecko, at least to my knowledge.

Has anyone else noticed TDS with their geckos?

Lots of info has been discussed about temperature dependence in gender determination, but not nothing has been proven so far.

Maybe it hinges on temperature AND humidity??

Check out the Repashy forum for more info.  I'd think that's where you'll find the best-most up to date-info.

Ive actually been wondering the same thing. I know with some other reptiles or amphibians that temperature can determine sex.

The original researcher who documented the phenomenon did so in snapping turtles, his name is Chester Yntema. I met a woman who did undergraduate work under him and had no idea it had since been found in many other reptiles.
