Slight defect in Zoo Med naturalistic terrarium
«

Lately in one of my gecko's cages, a Zoo Med naturalistic terrarium, she has been getting stuck in a little compartment that keeps the feeder insects from getting out that pops open when I open/close it. When I got home from vacation, she had ribs showing and she was not able to get food. What should I do about this? I do not have another cage "open".

(assuming I am looking at this right)hmmm, maybe raise your substrate level higher than the door opens. or maybe try looking at how it works at removing part of the mechanism to make it stay shut all the time
other than that im not too sure what would work at the moment

Mine was like that when I got it. It simply came apart. If you notice that there are holes/prongs (like puzzle pieces almost) they'll fit right in together and it won't come apart again. It isn't supposed to be like that but its not really broken either. Although, if you have been snapping it back together when its open like that, then it comes apart again next time, it's broken, because that shouldn't happen.

I dont think there is a spring mechanism in there because those notches in there start to rise when I open and close it and that is what is making it do that. I know that they fit together like that because I HAVE to close it when I see that it is open. Should I just take the part off? I'm not sure if the door will close and open properly if I do that though.

To get mine to stay completely together, when I popped back in the side to the right, where the door opens, the other side came off a bit. I found that I had to lift the entire piece a little bit, pull it towards the door and pop it in all at once.
I'm not entirely sure how it would function without it, if it comes off without actually breaking the piece you can test it and if it closes fine it might be ok.
