CGD
« on: January 26, 2010, 09:51:01 AM »

I know CGD is the best thing to feed to my crested.

The baby food in their diet is now gone. I had no idea it was that bad for them and i was using up what the previous owner had given me.

WHich is the best CGD to use?  And possibly a good place to buy it?

ive always just gone with the plain ol CGD. im not sure what flavor it is but they all seem to enjoy eating it. I usually order mine online, if you go that route i recomend ordering from a more popular site (i use pangea usually) since they are more likely to be selling alot of the stuff (constantly re stocking their inventory) so you wont get stuck with an old bag/ formula.

Thank you.

I did not know if there was a brand name I needed to be looking for.

Is it possible to buy it in larger amounts and freeze it?  I am a bulk buying fanatic  Roll Eyes

the brand i use is made by allen repashy, it is usually available in 4oz, 8oz, 1lb, maybe even 2 and 4 lb bags. i have 7 cresties and one pound will last about 6- 8 months for me (I am a bit wastefull, but oh well. the food is cheap enough)

I have heard about people storing un mixed food in the freezer to prolong shelf life after they opend the bag, some people will mix up a large batch of the diet and fill up a squeeze bottle (storing it in the refrigerator). this works great if you have alot of mouths to feed, its a real timesaver although i think once the diet is mixed it may go bad in a matter of weeks.

some people also fill up icecube trays with CGD and freeze them sometimes, then you just have to place a cube in each dish and let it thaw. I am not sure how long it will stay fresh though if you freeze it. ( i would asume quite a while)

BTW, pangea is a crested breeder/supply website i order my CGD through, not the brand of the food. Wink

hope this helps

Here's the link to the Pangea store-CGD page-Matt carries just about everything you could possibly need to care for cresteis-

You can also put pre-mixed CGD into a ziplock bag to freeze it.  You mix 1/4 cup of CGD with 1/2 cup of water, pour it into the bag, suck the air out and lay it flat in the freeze till frozen-then you just cut it into small chunks with a sharp knife or break off a small piece and put it into the blow to thaw before feeding.

Thank you guys.

I did venture over to the web site and made a list of what i will be buying next pay.

What do you all think of the magnetic dishes?

I  may try to get about a 1lb of the food and pre mix some to see how well it holds up. Thank you for the suggestions.

I do only have 2 geckos but I have a strange feeling that may change before too long.
