I just got my new crested gecko (this is my first one and I love him already!!!) and I need to know what all morphs he is. I've heard little tidbits of it, and now I know that he is white-fringed, partial pin, harley, and I heard from the breeder I got it from that the grandfather was creamsicle, but I dunno what that puts into my gecko's genetic composition. Also, I need to know what would be a good morph to put with him...I'm looking for some nice babehs!

Hi!  I'm Samanthajane13-or Donna, for the people who've been here a whole.

And while the point system by my name says I'm a "geriatric gecko", that just means I've posted TONS.  NOT that I'm an expert.  I've had my geckos 4 to 5 years, and this is the first year that my gecko girls were big enough to breed.

First of all, before I get into the morph, please bear with a me a minute.

You JUST got your first gecko, and are already looking for a mate???

I'm not trying to be mean, but you have a LOT of learning to do about the health and husbandry of geckos before you start mating them!!

We were having this discussion on another board just last week.

Here's the thread-PLEASE-for the healthy of your new gecko and any others you may get-PLEASE READ ALL OF IT!!

I now it says it's about Supply & Demand, but it takes in MANY aspects of breeding!!!  And you just may rethink breeding your gecko when you read the whole thing!!

There's a LOT MORE RESPONSIBILITY to breeding than throwing a male in with a female.

And a LOT of RISKS!!!

Now-as to the morph...

Partial pinstripe, white-fringed, flame or harlequin...

Can't really tell from the angle-has it been sexed yet??

And it's weight-that will help to determine the a a BIT-unless the breeder gave you a hatch date.

Then I can tell you if I think the morph will change/intensify more.  The flame or harley part...

It still looks very young to me.

I have females that have taken 3 years to grow to the recommended 35 grams for breeding...so be patient, Grasshopper!!

Pretty geckos come to those who wait!!

Well, hello, Donna! (I hope I can call you that ;o)

Yes, I just got him, and he is only somewhere within 4-6 weeks old. I am not looking for a mate, I am only trying to figure out what would be a good pair-up. I will be researching the breeding until 1. I sex it and 2. it gets old enough! Trust me I wasn't going to try to put an adult with a little baby like Shirako here!!!

And Shirako is a VERY pretty gecko, too!!!

Yeah-I didn't mean to seem like I was jumping on you.

Our little gecko friends are sooo adorable, that a lot of people take one lopk and start thinking of breeding, before they even get their first little one raised up!!!

And it may seem like an easy thing to just put any two geckos together,have the female crank out eggs, and go into business.

But there are lots of things to think about.

Mainly, what do you do if you can't move 12 to 16 extra geckos per FEMALE???

But you have plenty of time to think about your market if do decide to breed and sell.

I would go for a blonde harley or a halloween if I were you, but you need to know if Shirako is a male or female before you start looking...unless you plan to collect MORE geckos!!

They ARE like potato chips...can't have just one...or ten....LOL!!

And you can call me just about anything, as long as it isn't a nasty name or Late For Dinner...

Thanks, I heard that name somewhere but I thought it'd be a cool name for my little gecko. It's a guy name though.. I hope he (I just call him that for now) is a male when I sex him!

I know, I thought about breeding them but I know that I have to wait before mine gets raised up. Yeah, plus you have to think about what the babies will look like and everything else.


You know, I think I saw a blonde harley on acreptiles...I just might have to get him for Christmas....Not for breeding though. Blonde harleys look cool! ;]

See that would be like pizza for me...you can't only have 5 boxes...hehehe.

LOL-as a kid, my mom used to call me ALL manner of weird names.

She called me Throckmorton-after her troll piggy bank, Formaldehyde-for GOD only know what reason...she just sort of pulled strange nicknames out of her butt.

When she's throw one of those names at me, I'd call her Beulah.

Some people call me Samantha or Sammie or Samanthajane-that was the name of my deceased Lab/Samoyed girl, or they call me Donna.

I've been called Be-otch-jokingly, of course.  In my family, it's a term of endearment and a VERY HIGH COMPLIMENT that has to be EARNED.  NOBODY want to mess with the Be-otch...   (Picture 4 generations of women thumping their chests shouting-"I'm the BE-OTCH!"-the way guys shout out "I'm the MAN!  Then the argument starts...about who REALLY deserves the title.  )

Doesn't much matter what people call me...as long as it isn't meant to be cruel or rude.

Yeah-a blonde harley would look GREAT-if it turns out to be the right gender for Shirako. 

And if HE turns into a SHE, just feminize the name by changing the last letter of the name to an "a"!! 

Shiraka!!  Sort of like Eureka!!!

When I get my new gecko from Anthony and post her pictures, I'll be telling the story of HER name-PRAYING it's a GIRL!!!!

That one is a story and half!!!

Formaldehyde...I used to get called that...of course back then I didn't even know what the heck that was O_o  At least your mom doesn't play a random really embarrassing song when you get dropped off at school!!! But when she does that, she gets a jolly old slap on the back...you don't one of those..they hurt!

Yup that sounds like a good name to be called. Our family does something like that...but they fry 5 turkeys and see who makes it the best...once my uncle sabotaged my dad's and trust me, it wasn't good!!!

What about a black blonde harley? They look good...maybe that would look good?

Shiraka..that sounds like a cool name for a chick..but Shirako sounds cooler

Yeah-the black/blonde would be good, too, but I don't know what the color of the babies would be like.

LOL-I've had her waiting to come to me since Dec. 1st.  She isn't even here yet...waiting for delivery to the Land of Lake-effect Snow.

And there's NO GUARANTEE that she's a she...so I'm PRAYING HARD!!!

Now...if you want, I can put you on my waiting list for hatchlings...but she needs to grow up and if she is a HE (NOOOOOOOOO!!!) , I'll have to find a girl.  But if she IS a girl, she'll be mated with Pat when she's ready.

It could be two years before she's up to breeding weight, but if you want on my list, let me know!!

Sorry the one you wanted was sold!! Seriously-I've been there, and it SUX!!!

I'll put you on my list for babies from Sassy and Pat-just so that when they breed, I'll know who's interested in the babies-even if they are both males, and end up with other females. 

This way, when the eggs hatch, you'll be among the first notified-before I offer any for general sale to the forum members.

If you like what you see, you buy. 

If not, they go to the next person on the list.
