NYGecko: I wouldn't necessarily "work up" to a chondro. In all honesty, my chondro was my first serpent. Granted, I've owned herps of all shapes and sizes for the better part of a decade, I've never had a snake. A lot of the accounts of GTP hardships and difficulties are myths, IMO, provided you do a little bit of research before hand. Mine eats and sheds like clockwork. I can give you the number to my snake's breeder when you're ready. He's in Flemington.

clm3.0: I've heard of chondros being biters. I've owned mine since August and have never been bitten. Then again, I don't handle mine too often. At this size spinal damage is a serious concern. The breeder recommended scarce handling until they are at least a year old.

GECKOHAVEN: No collection is complete without a chondro AND a Leachianus! (I'm halfway there...for now)

I agree with Tainted Glory.  If you go by the GTP requirements (right temps, humidity, branches) they will be fine.  I've had 3 and all did great.  My second snake ever bought was an Emerald Tree Boa.  I was really nervous about it because all the things said about them being very delicate but she never had a problem and never tried to bite once.

Oh no, I didn't try and hold her, she would follow my hand every time I came near. I would get bit 3-7 times when I changed her cage. But I still like them, I think though I would want to get an adult, just because it would be well started. I think I'll wait till I have a house where I can build a nice big display case for him though. They are the most beautiful snakes, at least to me they are. Smiley

HEHE I've got my [hopefully] girl in a 20qt Sterlite container. It's cheap, retains heat well, and is great with humidity. I am going to build a nice acrylic enclosure when she hits the 12-18 month mark. I've got photos of the parents somewhere as well. I'll dig them up tonight.
