I went ahead and set up an account for this service.  I'm trying to ship out a Jaguar Carpet this coming week so starting looking over the website and filling out the necessary info.  I'm having the snake picked up at a specified address.  I noticed that there is no place to input date of pick up.  I tried calling and emailing shipyourreptiles.com but they seem to be closed for the weekend.  My question is for anyone that has used this service.  Can I book a pick-up days in advance or only the day before or day of?  I don't know how this works and need to find out right away so that I can ship out this week.  Speaking from booking airline flights you have an area for a departure date.  I would think this would be the same for shipping reptiles.  Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

No booking/shipping date needed.  The shipping label is good for at least 90 days I think (if not longer).  The date gets set when they check it in at UPS.

Thanks for the reply but I did find the area to fill in the date.  Had to call shipyourreptiles.  Its on the same page you fill out the address info down towards the bottom.  Shipped the carpet and everything went well.  Great service.

good to hear, I've been thinking about using them but I find FedEx to be so much better than UPS. I don't know if I can substitute cost for quality and customer service.

The following is a ShipyourReptiles mass mailer I received since I have an account:

While I'm sure that if you look hard enough you'll be able to find SOMEONE who's had a bad experience with them, overall they seem to be absolutely wonderful.  I haven't personally heard of anyone NOT liking them.

I've had horrible luck with the local end of UPS when it comes to delivery of herps.

They don't bother coming to the door to knock for a signature or anything.

They get the box from the back of the truck, walk a few feet along the sidewalk, not even walking to the part that leads to my door, and FLING to box to my porch and ROAR OFF.

The best service I ever had for live animals was USPS, back when I was having crickets delivered.

The girl came to the door, knocked and WAITED till I actually opened the door to sign for the box.

After the first couple times, she asked why the box chirped and made scratching sounds.

I told her they were crickets and she was a bit freaked, and asked why I needed a whole box of 500 crickets.

I introduced her to my Graceful chameleons Jerry and Steve, and after that she looked forward to seeing them every month, and even asked how they were if they didn't come to the door with me.

With UPS I have to physically be ON MY PORCH and walk down to the truck if I don't want my boxes thrown.

Or I get the yellow tag and have to drive to the depot in a crappy part of the city in the evening to get my deliveries.

i have been using shipyourreptiles from day 1 and ups for years now with not a lost box, mishandled box....every problem was not at the fault of ups...FedEx, dhl, usps...all problems. I have a FedEx acc. and have never used it, i get almost the same shipping price.

" I don't know if I can substitute cost for quality and customer service."

From Fedex

"Fedex Express does not accept live-animal shipments as part of its regular-scheduled service and does not transport household pets such as dogs, cats, birds and hamsters. Fedex Express may accept certain shipments of live animals such as houses, livestock and zoo animals(to and from zoo locations only) on an exception basis if approved and coordinated by the Fedex live animal desk (call 1.800.405.9052).

If approved by fedex, we may accept non-venomous reptiles, amphibians......more animals...under the following conditions:

1. Shipments must be from a business to a business
2. The shipper must have its packaging tested and pre-approved"

left some of it out, its long......

so by shipping your hobby to someones home is something you cant do......everyone i know that uses fedex to ship to your home has to lie about whats in the box, yes you can get the ok to ship if your a business, but you cant to someones home. I have this type of acc. with them and because most of the people that buy from me are just hobbyist, i wouldnt be able to ship to them unless i dont tell whats in the box. With shipyourreptiles i call say what it is, get a business discount, which i pass to my buyer... without lying about whats in the box. Dont know what would happen if they found out you were breaking the rules they have.........could be bad for the reptile, you and your buyer.....
