sense crested's don't have the strict heat requirements that a lot of other reptiles do, there is a wide range of options for tanks. key pointers being ventilation & humidity retention. and (for me) visability. you can go as DIY or fancy as you want with those. i have many garage-sale glass tanks with screens as housing, a few all-screen, and some kirtter keeps. they all get the job done. things to consider before buying/building is if if your house enviorment is dry/damp or cooler/hotter then the gecko's needs. then you'll have to adjust their housing to compensate. anthony's posted size requirements for housing single & multiple geckos on ciliatus.com. 20" high for one adult isn't bad, the same if you turn a 10 gallon on end.

i dont know, i liek them for things liek snakes, but i dont know about cresteds. i think i'd go with something a little different for the money. That reminds me we went to the fish store a few weeks ago and they had a 44g pentagon corner cage, for only $40.00! it came with a top the light.. the only problem is, it's a leaker.

Only thing is I would put something on the sides and back so it would retain humidity better. What would you suggest? I was going to go with plexiglass, but any other better suggestions that is not too expensive?

i will just give my personal opinions with what i would do
i would either get:
1. an exo-terra cage - you can get these for a prett good price at a local show
2. use regular glass aquarium tanks....either tall with a screen lid, or long turned on its side and modified

Reptile shows don't come trough TN anymore  and the pet stores sell them for high prices.
I like regular tanks, but everywhere around here they are pretty expensive. With these, I can get 3 38 gal, and 1 100 gal for $161.66 shipped. Here I couldn't get one 38 gal, for that price...or at least a nice one. And considering these are light weight, it's a plus. Here's why...my dad lives in an apt. complex that we begged to let us keep the cresties, and the agreed. HOPEFULLY we won't be living there much longer, and will get a nicer house. When this happens, the light weight reptariums will be a breeze to move. Plus, my sisters and I share the room the geckos are going in, so if we have to rearrange it will be simple. I like the look of the exo-terras, but they are so heavy and expensive. These are really nice if I can fix up the sides, which I might not even have to do.

another option might be to check out reptile depot. they sell tanks that are similar to the exo-terras

i know when i was in memphis it was hot and humid as HELL, but i dont know what the weather is like year round. it might be difficult to keep a decent amount of humidity in those repariums. i dont know how easy it would be to cover the sides with plexi, but it will definately be a project.

My dad's friend can help me with the plexiglass, so no problem there. Hopefully that will help with the humidity. If not, then I have no problem misting more. I just love how inexpensive these are, and I can still make my own project out of it as well! I'll keep you updated on everything once I get them, which will probably be after Christmas.

i use the reptariums myself for some of my cresteds, two males in a 38gal and three females in a 65gal. BUT i live in WA along the coast and mist twice a day durring the summer anyway. plexiglass would work to keep humidty up, and will seriously increase the weight of the tank comperable to that of a glass tank. thick plexiglass that dosn't warp easy isn't cheap, and cheap, well, warps. . i'm not sure what you had in mind for stacking, because they don't stack on top of each other easily. i have mine on a 4'x6' metro ($70ish). i have found the cheapest/easyiest thing is to get a glass tank, slap a screen on top, some thumb tabs and turn it up on it's side. if you have folks willing to help you with hanging plexiglas then adding a screen would be a walk in the park. look at garage-sales, thrift stores, craigslist, ebay (local search), free adds in the newspaper. a 10 gallons is just fine for one adult. out of the millions of glass tanks i have, i've never had to purchase a single one from a retial store. i also move like it's going out of style, tanks aren't a pain to move as long as you take the animals out . if you're really concered about the humidity then you could invest in a misting system. the downside to the all screen tanks is that water from misting ends up on the walls and can mold. ick.
i need to post a photo of my houseing one of these days... maybe when it dosn't look like a labritory.

The plexi, or whatever I use, was going to be pretty much removable, to make things easier. I have a couple 10 gal. but when I breed, it won't be enough space, and I would like for them to have as much room as possible. I was looking at a fogger, for humidity and aesthetics. Would that help? If I had that would I really need the plexiglass? I was planning on building my own table thing so I can put the female tank on top, and the males underneath. I would really worry about the humidity levels in there. Those are mainly for chameleons that need really good ventilation. I would go for the reptile depot crested gecko cages.

Those are just kinda expensive. I really like them, just don't make enough money to buy a few, feed everyone, and keep a savings account going. I was trying for something cheap and nice. I'll look around for used tanks, but I'll probably end up with these, and build the case for them. Probably either out of acrylic or plexi, unless I find something better or cheaper.

If you have someone that is knowledgeable with plexiglass I would definitely give it a try to build a cage on your own.

well whatever you do, keep us posted. i always like to see new ideas being tried. i will say again though, if your conserned about price, plexiglass ain't cheap. ...especially enough to conver 48" x 16.5". price the idea out before you buy it. good luck!

I used one of the vision cages a while back for cresteds.  It worked great, held humidity perfectly.  They cant see you when you're walking around the cage unless you're at the front.  The only problem i had with it is it is much more of a pain to clean than an aquarium or sterlite/rubbermade container with the small area above and below the glass.  For snakes, I dont think there's a better cage out there.

Just to update, I got a 100 gallon visionarium and a 38 gallon. They have softtrays that you put on the sides/back/bottom to hold humidity/heat/substrate. The 100 doesn't have them for the sides though, so I'm going to rig up some cheap shower curtain. The 38 gallon does. Haven't fully fixed up the 38 gallon, but the 100 has a back softray and a bottom one. I have eco-earth in there with a nice bromliad growing beautifully. Kovu LOVES it and is NEVER stressed in there. He's got lots of hides and stuff. This one WILL be for females, but I figured I'd let him stay in there for a while. I do hate how I have to get in and out of it. I'd like to just have a door. I was debating that maybe in the future taking the screen off, and taking glass/plexi glass/acrylic and gluing/syliconing it to the pipes. Making my own door for it. Just make it into a nice aquarium style cheap tank. What do you guys think? I know it will be a pain, but I might try it out.

I keep my Cresteds in pairs in BARRS 12 X 12 X 16. They're only 40 bucks and you don't have to wait on them. Also Doug Barr is great!!!
