Hey everyone,
Im new here and to the world of Herps,
Iv been wanting some kind of lizard for a while now but wasnt sure what I wanted.
After doing alot of reading and researching (not to mention the instant love for)
I decided I wanted a Crested gecko!
My 18th birthday is coming up (December 1st) so I asked my mum if I could get one for that, she agreed!
After more reading (and a nice paycheck, haha) I went out and bought my Terrarium,
an Exo-terra 18x18x24 (on sale, $99cnd) and a few other things I wanted.
Now, last night the family went out to the pet shops "just to look" and I found this little guy/girl in one of the tanks.
We went home and I asked my mum&dad what they thought, next thing I know is our sunday morning breakfast ending up back at the petshop!

Anyway, enough boring reading for you all. Please enjoy and tell me what you think! (suggestions more than welcome)

congratulations!

looks good, the only thing i would change, right now, would be to add some sticks or re-twist that vine so the little one has more room to walk across up top. like make it go from left to right a few times up higher in the tank. the crested will definatley appreciate it

how old is it?

hey that's rad. lots of room to play! and i see lots o' baby food next to tank, take it easy with that stuff otherwise you'll have youself a picky eater in no time. Wink. adding a top vine or two is also my suggestion.

I'll definatly go pick up some more vine for the top later today.
About the baby food, I asked the reptile guy at the store what he had been feeding and said he/she loves baby food and crickets,
but hasnt really eaten much of the CGD. My plan was to try to ween him/her off the baby food and start with more CGD with occasional crickets
for variety.
Im not 100% about the age, but the guy said he thought he/she was around 3-5 months.
Thanks for the comments!

Welcome to the group, nice looking gecko. yes, Straight CGD might take a few days or more to get eaten, but the younger ones seem to do best at adapting themselves to the diet. just make it every other day until he is eating it. good luck with him/her.

It looks a little young, I don't know if it's such a good idea to have it on bed a beast just yet.? They tend to get impacted a little easier when they are little, it might be a good idea to just put it on paper towels or newspaper for a few months, then switch it back to the bed a beast. Also, if you don't already, it's not easy to tell, put a piece of screen over the top of the perlite you have on the bottom, then put the bed a beast over the top of the screen.  If the perlite gets dug up or just mixed up and somehow ends up getting ingested by the crestie, juvie or adult, they can easily get impacted.? It's definately good to hear when people actually do some research before running out and buying an animal though. Also, you oculd try mixing some baby food into the CGD if it was eating baby food.? Just do a little less each time until it's just CGD.? That's an awesome gecko, good luck with it.

i dont think he has to go that far, if hes feeding cricket (which he should be if the gecko is being fed CGD correctly). i would simply put the crickets in a tallish glass or tupperware to keep the crickets from roaming free in the substrate

Thats exactly what I am doing? Smiley I have a tall glass that i put the crickets in and then take it out when he/shes done eating,
but if there ever is a problem with the bed-a-beast ill switch it out for paper towels.
Thanks everyone for the comments Smiley heres a few more pics!

Very nice, I too would say subadult. Have you purchased the new CGD?
If not try the new stuff you can purchase it from Matt Parks from Pangea Reptiles, they tend to take to that better than the old CGD.

What a sweet litttle thing. But I would NOT recommend mixing the T-Rex with the Diet Pepsi. LOL (see photo)

I just got off the phone with my dad, he said that he thought he herd the store guy say he/she was 5-8 months. So I must of misheard.
Also, I just had my first handling, ever, he/she's the most adorable thing ever!

(first two are with flash, the last three are what his/her colors really look like)
