I treated my corn snake for mites a couple months ago. I used Reptile Relief to treat him, the tank, and the water dish, and I heat treated the wood. Nothing new has been added to the tank, so how did he get mites again?

Could they come on the mice? I thought they could only live on reptiles. Wouldn't freezing the mice kill them?

The problem is the Reptile Relief, it doesnt work.   Mites always come back. Try Provent a mite. It's the best out there and will kill the mites and the eggs.

When you are treating for mites, you want to take all the bedding out and just use newspaper until you are completely sure that the mites are gone.  Personally, I'd just completely get rid of the beding all together if it had mites on it.  Mites suck....

You can treat the bedding with Provent a mite and it kills everything.
I had a huge mite problem when I worked at Petco Undecided, I brought them home from working there.  The reptile relief, mite off and any other crap they sell at the pet stores is just that, crap.  It may kill a few but they always come back.

I can't find Provent-a-Mite in any stores around here, all they have is Reptile Relief.

Last time, I took at the bedding out, sprayed the tank, rinsed it, washed it with bleach & water, rinsed it, and put paper towel in instead of bedding for a couple weeks. I'm going to try that again, but from now on I'm also going to heat treat all bedding (Repti Bark) before it goes in the tank.

It has to be ordered online at kingsnake.com most pet stores dont carry it.

I know you can treat the bedding, but if you miss something you got them breeding again in the bedding.  That's why I don't like using anything but newspaper for my snakes.  I used to use bedding and got mites a couple of times and it's just a huge pain to get rid of them because they breed like crazy in the bedding.  With newspaper, I haven't had a mite problem in years.

I hate Mite-Off, it doesn't work-straight up!  On the other hand, I've never had any problem with Reptile Relief.... as long as you clean, spray, remove all decor, paper towel your bottom, and just wait.  The trick is to remove ANYTHING porous, heat treat, and don't put stuff back too early.  When you treat, make sure you get in all the skin folds, as well.  It only takes one missed mite to reinfestate.

But everyone has their favorite remedy...
