I've searched the forum and read anything I could find but now I am wanting some real help with live plants.

1.) I was thinking about getting a male crested gecko in a year. I was going to setup the tank here in a couple of months. I was wanting to get a 45g hex aquarium. Do you think that will be a bit much? I really like tank style. Or should I go with a front opening terrarium such as Exo Terra? I could find used aquariums like the 45g for cheap but I don't know if it would be better to have a cage that opens from the front rather than the top.

I was planning on doing the following for the bottom but have more dirt to establish roots: link

2.) I have some plants in mind. The plants I will use is not limited to this list and I will not be using them all.
Bromeliad
Sansevieria trifasciata (snake plant)
Epipremnum aureum (pothos)
Peperomia argyreia
Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant)
Orchids?

How does that list look? Will these plants outgrow the vivarium? I don't want to deal with huge plants! Will all these plants be easy to care for?

Well, I think a male crestie would LOVE to have a nice 45 gal hex tank. Would love the extra space  Smiley
I only really know two of those plants on that list, the brom and pothos vine. I've had both. It's just about impossible to kill a pothos vine, lol, so you'll have it easy there. Plus it grows great, and the crestie will love it. I had a little bit more trouble with the brom, but it still held through and looked great. It didn't grow too big, and if a plant ever does you can always cut it back.

Orchids probably wouldn't survive very long in the tank. A crestie would tear one of those up, although it would be nice if they didn't because they are very pretty!

Good luck, and make sure to post pics!!

I don't remember which plants were good and which weren't, I haven't used live plants in a long time.  Butas for the cage, it sounds like it would be really nice.  Doesn't really matter if it's a front opening cage or not, so what you have sounds good. I personally like the Exo Terras pretty much over almost any other cage, but the hex would make a nice show cage.
