So I picked up my first gargoyle at the Dixie show. Only decent thing they had there, and the only one of its kind....

So would you call him a red banded?

I'm not sure his markings are as quite "banded" as they are reticulated.  He sure is a gorgeous red!

I'm not great with the morph id'ing on these guys, but I agree he looks reticulated.  He's pretty cool looking, regardless!!

Oh, well I just thought banded and reticulated were the same thing. Told you I was new to the gargoyle morphs :-)

Gorgeous! I'm loving gargs, maybe even more than my cresties, but you found a nice red retic and a male too!!

I'm looking for one just like that!

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't know how much I would like gargoyles until I actually saw one in person. I don't have enough to say whether I like them better than cresties (he is my only), but right now I would say I like them equally (which is saying a lot for gargs). They are really amazing, and how much they change when they fire up is breathtaking. I am definitely in love with this guy. And what else is cool is the guy said that he came from big parents (50g and something else I forget), so we're kind of waiting to see if he turns out large, too. He is at 30g right now.

Actually looks alot like my first gargoyle when she's fired up.  I couldn't believe it when she fired up to that nice red/orange color the first time I saw her do it.  When we bought her, she was just a very light pink juvie. Grats on the first gargoyle, I definitley want to get more, only at 5 now.

And does it seem like they eat more than cresties? This guy is an eating machine. Won't touch crix though, only CGD so far.

Yes, definitely, at least in our case as well... All of my gargoyles are huge pigs... I mean some of my Cresteds are pigs too, but not like the gargoyles.

Okay so I just asked Hunter and he said that he thought the guy we bought him from said one of his parents was 70-80 grams. Is this possible/common?

Well, I have a female that is 63 grams, and I'm pretty sure that's big for a gargoyle.  I'm sure I don't have the biggest gargoyle in the world, so I'm sure it possible.  Whether it's common or not, I'm not completely sure.

My little garg took a little time to find her appetite, but now she is clear and above my best eater at only 20g! My female crestie is over 40g and doesn't eat nearly as much CGD in one sitting!!

To answer the question on how big gargs CAN get, go here:
http://www.forums.repashy.com/rhacodactylus-auriculatus-discussion/8139-giant-amongst-giants.html

It's rare, but apparently possible! What a beast!!!! 146 GRAMS
