I own the Rhac bible and have read through it several times. I've read topics here, on Pangea and on Repashy. I still can't sex my garg!! I have pics of its bulge, but the pores/pseudo-pores aren't showing up in the pics (not that I can tell the difference). There are several rows of pores/pseudo pores but that doesn't tell me much.

Can anyone tell based on the bulge? The little guy is right between juvie and subadult.

Thanks!

Sorry-can't help you.

I don't do gargs, and even if I did, I can't see through a loup to save my soul.

Must make an appointment with the ophthalmologist soon or I'm gonna need a dog and white cane... Tongue

Haha, is he venomous too?

I just have such a hard time with gargs because of the pores/pseudo-pores and even the females can be a little puffy down there and make it look like there's a bulge.

I'll see if I can get a better picture tonight. I was messing with him/her for a while last night trying to get any picture and it was squeaking and trying to bite so the little guy is probably kinda stressed. I gave it some CGD and a calm night so I can probably go back to messing with it today after work!

Eventually I want to breed these guys too, but I know the odds of accidentally buying a male like this are slim so I'm really hoping!

FINALLY got a better pic, but it's not really that much better.

I had to turn down the brightness on my monitor to see any of the pores because of the flash on white scales.

Hard to see on camera, but I don't need a loupe to see them in person.

I think that may be the link on repashy that I was looking at. Even there I can't see any real difference between the pores and pseudo-pores!!

Right from the Bible-

Page 103-

"If in doubt, look at the number of pore rows, five in males versus none or up to three rows of pseudopores in some females."

Count the rows.

Hope that helps.

Nope, no loupe! I've never needed one because my cresties are so easy.

This one is tough because I want it to be male, but I know how rare male gargs are. Even the breeder I bought it from as a juvie thought it was female, but that was back when it was even HARDER to tell!

had that happen with a red harlymale that turned out female, i traded her for a leachie, people that breed ball pythons told me that they get hi end male co-doms and cheaper females in case of problems with breeding you dont loose your hi end reptiles...so i started getting hi end males and cheaper/normal females, i have a super red striped male garg and 3 normal striped females

Hmm, makes sense!

Y'know, I'm wondering if there's an easy test. Do female gargs have those calcium sacks in the roof of their mouth like female cresties??

A few people on the Repashy forum think this one is a female so now I'm back at square one!! Luckily, I don't think I'll have any trouble getting him/her to open its mouth. These guys are a lot moodier and vocal than my cresties!

think both sexes do, i would just wait, if it turns out to be a sex you don't want...people are always looking for a ready to breed adult....so they don't have to do the work raising it

Looks like the consensus is it's a girl. At 21g there just wasn't enough of a bulge or developed pores to call it a male, which there should be at that size according to the repashy forum.

Now I gotta work on finding a male!
