I purchased a crested for my son back in March from the local pet store. All is well, easy to maintain and care for. My son and I are interested in getting it a companion but don?t want to get the same sex. So my question is, are there some good images showing a young juvenile crested male so I may figure out what sex it is.? Can someone supply any good close up shots on what to look for. I?m really not sure how old it is and the pet store had no idea as well.

Thanks

well since we dont have an age on your gecko ill just list a few things that i have read

a male crested will develop what is called a hemipenile bulge at the base of it tail
unfortunatley it doesnt begin to show until about 6 months of age, but can develop as late as 1 year
a female will have no bulge

the only other way to sex the gecko is with a loupe and by looking at the pre anal pores. this can be done by around 5 months or so. the males pores will have rows of indented pores(they will look like dots on the pores)

getting opposite sex geckos will also result in breeding! and the female needs to be older and of correct breeding weight to ensure nothing goes wrong and she has enough calcium for egg laying. males usually reach maturity quicker than females. you will also have to seperate them at some time to let the female cool off and build herself back up, otherwise she will continue laying all year.

hope this helps some.
ill try to see if i can find any pics online to show you what the male pores look like or even the bulge i was talking about.
or if you have with you the book: Racodactylus The Complete Guide to the Selection and Care by Vosjoli, Fast, and Repashy, the info is in there also
