Hey guys,

I just picked this fella up from the place I used to work at a couple of days ago. $60 for me. It pays to have your connections at all of the exotics places in town :-)

So tell me-- what is reverse or phantom pinstriping? Is he either of these? The skin along the inside of his crests is darker than anywhere else on his body. Besides that, he is just mustard/gold patternless with portholes. Nice crests too though. Just thought he was neat.

How would you describe this guy?

Thanks

The Phantom pinstripes are a line that Anthony is working with.
The reverse pins have dark stripes opposite of where the normal pinstripes would be.

Yours looks more like the patternless pinstripes.  It has the raised pinstripe scales but not white.

Wow. Confusing. I've never even heard of patternless pinstripe.

"It has the raised pinstripe scales but not white."? I'm sorry, I just don't really know anything about pinstripes. Do they have to be white?

So a patternless pinstripe means that the two lines (normally white in a regular pinstripe) are dark with the enlarged scales?

And a reverse pinstripe is where the dark lines are actually beside (not in place of like a patternless pinstripe) where the white lines would be in a normal pinstripe?

I've been curious about this as well.

Thanks Julie, that helped a lot. So basically this guy is a phantom pinner of the patternless pin variety?

Thanks Fossillady! I thought it was a nice find. Well, it could be a female (I don't know for sure yet), but it's actually still pretty juvenile (there is nothing for scale in the pics I put up) and I think it's showing the beginning of a bulge and I can see faint pores. Only time will tell. It would be nice if it turned out female.

"Phantom" and reverse pin's are two tottaly different morphs. The phantoms have raised dorsal scales on each side, just as the pinstripes do white lines. The scales however, have no white color and just blend in with the rest of the animal. Occasionally they will have very small amounts of actual pinning at the tail base. Reverse pin's have darkened dorsal scales, but not raised. Anthony has a whole page that explains and displays several different photos of phantoms.

Here we go again, lol. Phantom pinstripes and patternless pinstripes are the SAME THING. AC was the one to coin the term "phantom" pinstripe because some people argued that patternless pinstripe (which is what he was calling them before) was a misnomer. That aside, they are completely different than a reverse pinstripe. Reverse pinners have a dark stripe running lateral to the pinstripe scales...or where they would be if your gecko doesn't have pinstripe scales. One thing I would be interested to find out is if a gecko can be both a phantom pinstripe, and a reverse pinstripe, meaning it has the raised pinner scales, but also has the dark stripe along side of them. I think that would be an awesome looking gecko, especially if the pinstripe scales were white.

Wow! They do look very similar but yours is prettier. He has nice reverse pinstriping and lateral striping.

OH WOW! This is kinda like what I was talking about in my last post! It looks as though your gecko has the pinstripe scales present as well as the reverse pinstripe. That is definitely a cool looking gecko...he even has the lateral stripes on his sides!!!  Shocked

I was wondering if he was like what you meant. Definitely one of my favorites from the group and I look forward to working with him in the future. I have a couple of ladies set to go with him next year. Cheesy
