I picked up this little guy as a hatchling (my guess is he was MAYBE a month old...)back in the middle of August.  He had a few spots at that time...he now pops out new spots every few days, it seems (which I know is normal).  My question s regarding the color of the spots.  Most are black, obviously, but I'm starting to see red spots now, too.  A couple on his head and sides...the natural light in the pic makes the red impossible to see, but it's there!.  Do you think I can expect more red spots?  He also has a red tint to his pelvic/belly scales, and when fired appears a red-brown.  Does his reddish base color have anything to do with his spot coloring?

I have seen that on some red, orange and yellow geckos.  I have 2 reds that have red spots and one with green and red spots.
It's possible that it will get more red spots as it grows.

Is that what you call a "mardi-gras"...with the two colours of spots? Not sure where I read about it.

I think the mardi gras is a tangerine with red spotting... Xander with Spade Reptiles (katatonia on the forum) has been doing a lot with them.  Use the search feature here with the key word "mardi gras" and you'll get some pics of his.

My little one in the first post has developed quite a bit more red spotting since I started this thread.  So now it fires a rusty red with a brownish dorsal flame, and has black and red dalmation spotting.  I should try to get an updated pic in here...

The Mardi Gras geckos I've seen have been orange or red base color with all red or black and red spots. I think it's Spade reptiles that is working on this project. I also think the more red spots, the better the Mardi Gras!

Though HIGHLY unlikely, wouldn't the ultimate dalmatian morph be a reverse dalmatian? Something dark with white or cream spots? Oh if only we could paint those elusive DNA strands!

A very dark solid brown gecko with some light spots is not impossible.  I wonder if you keep putting super dal to super dal and increasing the concentration of black spots ==would be possible to have animal that is truly truly BLACK from being layered over withclusters of dal spots and just have very little base color showing?  (working on it!!  Grin )

Wow.  That would be insane.  Why is it you can get a couple spots to be passed on out of any breeding pair, but the elusive 'super' dalmation is so hard to get?

The question of all questions! Well, I guess other than "Why is it so hard to get a moonglow!?"
