I have bought 2 geckos and I'm thinking: Do I need to quarantine them? They both come from Anthony and will be kept in a 20 gallon.

Thanks!!!

Nothing against Anthony, but I would quarantine ALL new herps.

It's just the safe thing to do, and trains you to quarantine EVERY new animal you bring in before introducing it to the rest of your zoo.

I'm sure Anthony would agree.

"dont need to quarantine them from eachother just your other cresteds..."

Yeah-from the time they leave Anthony's hands to the time thy reach your door, t :'(ey can be exposed to ANY NUMBER of pathogens which could harm them or your other geckos.

It's NOT what Anthony does with them, it's what they're exposed to in transit that can be harmful.

I am not trying to start an arguement or anything, but I have gotten cresteds from Anthony multiple times and I could be wrong but in my opinion they were sealed extremely well and I would say with the top taped airtight(I could be wrong on that wording). In my opinion if these are your first 2 you wouldnt need to quarantine them from each other.

same...thats what i was getting at, same box...so they would both have the same thing(if they did get anything), but i think its Alaska Gecko Girl's 1st. crested(might be wrong), if so....theres no need to quarantine them from each other.

They will not be kept with other geckos (And yes these are my first ! Wink), and will be alone in the 20 gallon. I was just wondering if they have to be seperated from each other! Thank you for your help!

You put the new gecko in it's own clean, sanitized cage, and observe it for signs of disease and parasites-preferably in a location away from all other geckos-like on a different floor or in a different room not near where your other geckos are located.

You also make sure that there's no cross-contamination from water and food dished and cleaning tools, etc.

90 days is the best time for quarantine, but some people only do 30 or 60 days.

And if the new geckos come from the same source\breeder, the usually don't have to be put in a different room from each other, since they travelled to you together in the same package.
