I've been using CGD for about a year now but just recently on the last two bottles i have had i have noticed after about halfway through the bottle i start to see mold in the mix and I'm not sure why...I keep the cap closed and all. Is there a better way to preserve it?

I don't have that problem.

But I have mold in the feeding dish when I check it the next morning.

Keep your powder in the fridge and you should be fine.

Once made, Heat + Humidity+ CGD= mold!  As long as you remember to take it out the next morning you should be okay.

I think it happens to EVERYBODY at some point!   Smiley

It will be interesting to see how the season change affects the CGD.  I can only assume it will be for the better!

Are you talking about mold IN the bottle?

There is a little paper bag inside the bottle that is to help keep it dry. Did you take it out? Iits annoying to scoop around, but leave it in to prevent mold.

Just as a heads up about CGD and mold, Allen has announced that he's added Potassium sorbate to the mix to prevent this.  The new packages already have the preservative in them, but the labels haven't been changed yet.  Once those labels are used up, you'll start seeing it's inclusion in the ingredient list.  Wink

As an aside, I'm having mixed feelings about this... I'm not fond of preservatives in pet food...

It really is convenient... I just wish there was some option that was lacking the preservatives. Sad  The darn crabs have ruined commercial food for life. lol  Tongue

I have a big bag of the new formula and it doesn't form mold whatsoever. It can be left for 3-4 days and still not a bit of mold. They might still be trying to sell the small bags of the older version but I know that Pangea has the new kind in the 4 lb bags because thats the size I bought. The 2 lb bags and lower might still be old but here pretty soon it will all be "new". You should not worry about the ingredients because I don't think Allen would risk loosing his collection much less ruining his name as the biggest supplier for food to Rhacs in the world. You can always ask them if the size you want was newly shipped and they should tell you but just go ahead and get the 4 lb bag if you wanna be safe. I don't have a clue why your bottle is getting moldy inside. He never put those silica gel packs in any of his bulk bag diets and no one has ever reported that with them. (and it certainly sits around alot longer than a little bottle does)
