I'm hoping to pick up a breeding pair of Gargs in September and I had questions about pairing and housing. When I separate the 2 after breeding them, can I keep the male garg with my male crestie or will they fight. Same question regarding the females.

My main concern is that Gargoyles love eating tails and I'd like my cresties to keep theirs. Space isn't an issue, I have some pretty big display tanks.

Thanks!

1) I wouldn't bother separating the male from the female...I've had the same breeding groups together for 4-5 years.  Never a problem.

2) I would never put two proven breeder male cresteds (or gargoyles) together, so I wouldn't put a male crested and male gargoyle together either.

From what I've seen it depends on the individual gargoyle.  Some are more aggressive and may attempt to bite the crested like they would any other cagemate, possibly resulting in tail loss.  For me one of my female gargoyles is actually the most aggressive.  I can't keep her with any other geckos if I don't want to risk missing tails or possibly even bites all over their bodies.  The first time I let her cohabitate with 3 adult female cresteds that were her size I came home to find her with the belly of one of the female cresteds in her jaws!  No harm was done, and I separated them, and only let her with the male gargoyle for breeding after that.  However, I have also had the male and another female gargoyle living with those same cresteds with no problems at all, never a missing or nipped tail.  So really if you want to take the chance you can, but it does seem to depend on their individual personality.
But I do agree with Anthony that you should be able to keep your breeding pair together all the time.
