Meet Aidan

Well, as many of you know I work at an exotics pet store. I work there with two people...sort of. My boss, Aaron (but he is manly on the other side of the building with his bowling/tatoo/medical supplies businesses...weird, I know), and my coworker, Joe. I'm about ready to beat the snot out of Joe. For the past few weeks I have only been able to go in for a bit in the afternoons, so I can't feed and such, which is typically done by Joe in the mornings. I worry about cleaning, and the fish, mainly. Well, I got a chance to stay longer last night and checked up on the reptiles. This is what I found:
It's not broken, I don't think, because if pressure is put on it he doesn't squirm. I'm thinking MBD, like the little Nile I had (which recovered GREAT and is back to his old mean self...). So, I took him home and have him under lots of heat and UV, and I'm getting lots of calcium into his belly. I may just keep this one.

Did you tell your boss? Unless he arrived at the shop like that, that is highly highly negligent of your co-worker.
But it's hard NOT to keep any pet you rescue. Seems like they just need you.
Good for you for taken it home.

I haven't even really seen my boss for the last 2 weeks...and the tegu has been here since I started working here almost 7 months ago.
He's looking better, and I think he likes his new home.

That's great. Do you have to pay for it to keep it?

Yeah, I will, sadly. Also brought this guy home today:
A woman brought him in the other day. His beak needs clipping bad, as well as his nails, and I need to get his wings clipped. He's very sweet though.
I'm able to take in more rescues now since I'm finally getting my own bed room. Kind of sad how it happened (my uncle, who used to live there, decided to try to commit suicide. He's ok though, and moving to his own place to get back on his feet.)

Well, some good can come out of the bad then. That's great. I didn't know you had to clip bird's beaks.
He's really cute and he even looks like he's smiling.

You really don't have to unless you don't give them anything to keep it trim (cuttle bone, toys, etc.). I'm guessing he had nothing. Poor guy.

What kind of bird is that? Is it a Nanday conure?

It's nice
and seems friendly.
I had a cherry head conure that was evil. I worked with him enough to take him out of the cage with a glove but when I looked away he would find some skin not covered with the glove and start chomping

When I was at petco they had a Nanday conure. Everyone told me to watch out for him because he likes to bite. I had to feed the birds every night I closed so I started hand feeding him through his cage. After a couple weeks he would jump out of the cage and sit on my shoulder while i fed the other birds. No one else could come anywhere near him
I would have bought him but he was $500

I remember having to hand feed birds... it was interesting and some were like impossible to feed without getting it all over the place like the male eclectus that was there. If i was to get a bird i think it would have to be a Senegal... i love them. i like love birds too.

i think meyer's parrots are supposed to have a better temperament than senegals and they look pretty similar. i think i'll have my hands full of parrots now, but someday i'm saving up for a kookaburra and maybe a toucan or an aracari.

oh yeah i heard that too i think they are right around the same price too. noone around here breeds them so i havent seen any (the store only buys local baby's that are on 3 hand feedings). i heard more pople say senegals have a little better talking ability though. I dont know for now i'll just stick to what i got. a bird is alot to handle so i have time to think about what i really want.

Try handfeeding a greenwinged Macaw. Everytime I fed her and starting her feeding response I was covered in splatted formula.

They both have very mettalic sounding voices. Both are charming little birds though. Very personable.
