Hello!? My name is Tracy.? I'm 33, divorced, live in Pleasanton, CA (east of San Francisco).? My story into how I became the mommy of 5 Geckos.? My son, Steven, he's 6, sees the Geico commercails and says Geico Gecko....over and over again (sounds kinda' cool to hear/says).? When we go to the pet store, he sees geckos and gets all excited and repeats Geico Gecko over and over. Well, I always said we could get turtles when the fish die (sad story, will spare you) or a bearded dragon (which we will once we move).? Well, the fish pretty much got something and started dying off.? Went in the pet store to get some medicine and started looking at geckos (the House Gecko was $4.99) and thought wouldn't be bad to start with and not too expensive.? $100 later, off I go with a terrarium, substrate, cork log, plastic vine plant, lamp, bulb, crickets, dish and Geico Gecko, what I assumed was a House Gecko.? I get to my son's school and he was soooooooo excited about his new pet/friend.? We went to a different pet store and got Geico a friend, Johnny Gecko (sounds like a super hero, huh?).? Well, Gecko life was good for a couple days, until Johnny bit me and then Geico did.? Johnny also lost his tail as he got in the way of me changing the water.? Well, the nest day Johnny gets out and has been MIA since (about 2 weeks now).? Steven is upset, but not too much since he can't hold them or touch them.? So...I go on various forums and a Leopard Gecko is recommened.? The remaining fish die and I clean out their aquearium to turn into a terrarium.? Head to Petco and was sold a Crested Gecko, who is 8-12 months old, a love and has yet to be named....Clyde or Gus is coming out, but still not sure which one yet.? Well, told "has to have a friend mommy" and since 2 males don't get along, I'm on the hunt for a female.? A week later, I find her.? She was hiding at the same Petco.? So, now I have a girl....yet to be named.? Oh, as for the 3rd Gecko?? Well, when I got my female Crested, I got a confirmed female House, named Daisy Gecko.

Along with my 5 Geckos, I have my 6 year old man (as he likes to call himself), Steven.? A HUGE, orange and white cat, Leo, he's 8.? A boyfriend and his 3 kids.? ?

Besides that, I love music, reading, dancing, being silly, the beach, cooking, laundry.....being outside.

Attached is a picture of one of my Crested Geckos.? It's the female.? The male looks pretty much the same, but is smaller.

One of my favorite places....Top of Mount Diablo.  On a clear day you can see past the Golden Gate Bridge on one side (hour drive) , turn around and see the Sierras (about 3 hours).

Nice to meat you. Welcome to the forums.  Your geckos look really nice.  Lol, actually I think the Geico gecko is a day gecko.  Day gecko's are really nice.  They have some great colors.  Kinda like the Geico gecko.  There are a bunch of different kinds of day geckos.  Do you have your cresties together?  Are you planning on some babies?  How long have thy been together if they are?

Hello and thank you for the welcome? Smiley?

I'll have to check the day Gecko thing.? There is are a couple of reptile stores in my area, so I may just pack Daisy and Geico up and take them there to really find out what they are.? I just wish I knew what happened to Johnny.? The terrarium was in my son's room and he got out in there.....which is full of clothes, toys and pretty much a mess, so who knows where he is.? Huh?? Huh? Huh

I did come up with names for my Cresties....Gus and Eileen.? Don't know where they came from, but.....that's what came to mind.? Told my son it's important to pick good names, as we're going to have them for YEARS!!!

Oh, Eileen and Gus are together.  They were housed together at the store, how long, not 100% sure.  And they've been back together for about a week now.  Funny thing is that she seems to be fatter and longer than him by at least an inch.  He seems small, more juvenile than her.  Gus is also a lot friendlier and calmer.  Is that normal with them?  The boy being calmer?  She doesn't like being held much and will tolerate it for a minute or 2.  He seems to really like it.  He climbs up my arm and settles on my shoulder or back of neck or in my hair while I mix their food up.  If babies happen, then they will happen.  I know, probably not the most responsible thing, but at the same time, if I plan for babies, then it won't happen.  If I don't, then I will be inundated with them.

Do you know how I can really tell how old they are? I was told between 8-12 months.

He is a day gecko.  They're a little harder to keep than cresteds but not that bad.  I had a pair of gold dust and giant day geckos.  THye're fun to watch, out during the day so you can see them but they require uv lighting and that's what i didnt like about them.

if you can post pics of daisy and geico i'm sure someone on here will know what kind of geco they are.

If you have a male and a female crested then babies will happen.? Its hard to say how old they are some grow faster than others so you really cant tell for sure without knowing the hatch date but from the picture the female looks close to adult size.

Geico and Daisy are hard to get pics of because they like to hide and are fast. Sad   If I'm holding them and let go just a little, they will run.  I'll probably get them out tonight and put them in the "holding" tank I use for cleaning (one of those plastic things w/ vents on the top and a handle) I'll take a picture.

Yea they have to be some kind of house gecko to be so cheap.  I was thinking Mediterranean (think that's spelled right).  That's what our pet stores here sell as house geckos.

One store sold the one I'm questioning for $4.99, sold to me as a House Gecko.  The others were $9.99.

I like laundry, as opposed to dishes (HATE dishes).  I also love the feel of taking warm clothes out of the dryer and the smell of freshly washed and dried clothes.

I like going to the beach to rejuvenate, and love going in the winter.  Not a lot of people and the weather is usally fairly mild.  I'm a cancer, so water is my thing.   Wink

this is a pic of the "house" gecko I have.? She's going to be going to a new home, I believe.? I've had 3 and now she's the one left and almsot got out last night.? She's also vicious and loves to bite.? My son is very afraid to even go near her terrarium, even with a secure lid.

Thank you very much.  I'm now down to 2 Crested, 2 MIA House Geckos, and 2 Crested eggs.  The gecko that is in the picture about I had to take to a reptile store.  Learned it's viper something gecko.  She was becoming really mean and skittish, even when I would drop in crickets, change the water, stir up the substrate.  So, I called the local store to me, The Reptile Room, and they took her for me.
