I just wanted to post this for those of you who do not know much about camera equipment. You don't need to purchase a high-end camera to get great shots. For shooting geckos, or other small animals, you just need macro and super macro settings. This will allow you to shoot close-up. There is no need for long zoom (optical or digital) as for this type of photography you won't need to use it. Your camera will be very close to the gecko, but you'll get great shots.

As for lighting, you don't need to purchase professional lights. You can use any lamp or spot-light you own. Set your white balance to the type of lighting that it is and your colors will come out great. If you don't want to mess with the white balance....buy a "day-light" bulb from Lowes, or other such place and your lighting will be perfect. Don't put the geckos too close to the light source, you don't want to burn them. You just want to have good light on them.

As I learned in my photography classes, years ago, it isn't the camera that makes good photos, it's the photographer. I use very basic equipment and can get whatever I need out of it.

Have questions...feel free to ask.
