Some individuals in the Ceratophrys genus can be quite vocal. I've heard of Pacman frog's (cranwelli) barking and chriping before as well as the fantasy frogs (cranwelli X cornuta) and the Suriname horned frog (cornuta). Normally they aren't nearly as noisy, but every once in a while you get one that likes to make some sounds.

My first pac man frog I got at an show when I was 17. When he (didn't know but what I referred to it as) got to be about 4 inches in diameter he started croaking too. At first it sounded like someone was strangling a duck and I actually checked my whole room & went outside to see what could be causing the noise.  lol  After some time passed he would croak more often. That frog could really move when he wanted to, didn't know the little cow patty could jump that high.   *sigh* I miss him enough that I've though about getting another one. Even my hubby rather liked the one I had when we first met. It's been a long time since I read anything about their breeding behavior but 2 possibilities come to mind. 1 It could be a male thing. or 2 It just felt like it and the others didn't. I'm sure there are other reasons.
