Right after the tree boa pictures, there's a snake that someone is holding.
What kind of snake is that? It's really pretty.
It reminds me of my snakes because you can see a rainbow sheen on it in the picture.

You mean after the green tree pythons Smiley
That is a retic.  They're one of my favorites but they get very big.

Retics are so beautifl, but from whaat I've heard, don't they get pretty mean? Or do they just go through a 'snappy' phase as a baby?

Any snake can be mean or very tame.  It all depends on that snake, they are all different.  This one never tried to bite and you could hold him all day.

I have had a few retics and only one was bad.

Generally speaking though they can be a bit nasty.  Their are exceptions to every rule though.  Blood pythons are generally ill tempered too but I have seen some that are able to be handled.

I know we've determined that every snake is different as far as temperament but in general are carpets hard to keep/handle?  I've always toyed with the idea of getting one but I'm one of those people that actually likes to hold my snakes....

no, carpets are very easy to handle especially as they grow.  You will occasionally get a baby that is scared but they usually grow out of it fast but almost all of mine have been really tame. .  They are much more curious than others. so they will move around and flick their tongue at things.
Husbandry is very easy also.  Pretty much like any other python.  Anthony has a great care sheet on them on his website http://acreptiles.com/carpet_python_care.htm  and another page here http://acreptiles.com/pythons_carpet.htm

Very nice animals!  I like the green trees.

As a side note, I've only been around one med. size (carpet) that was a witch.  All the babies we used to carry always started out a bit jumpy, but did pretty well over time.
