Hi! Now that my beadies are eating their veggies, I'm trying to explore new foods. These include silkworms, but at my local pet shop they are canned. Has anyone ever tried canned mealworms, silkworms, etc? Do they work? Should this topic be in another section? Thanks so much!

You should look into pheonix worms...they were just today brought to my attention by James on these forums! Look at the testimonials....they make them seem like a godsend! everything you will need to know is on that site. www.phoenixworm.com

Well, if you put them in with their vegetables they MIGHT eat them, but they tend to have to be live. I think most of that stuff is for use with a vibrating dish/rock though I have a friend who has one of those and they still don't go after the dead stuff.

I tried phoenixworm.com-- WAY too expensive. Mullberry farms is much cheaper, and it's basically the same thing.

You might actually look on ebay. I got crickets on ebay for way cheaper than the cricket farms.

I dont know...pretty close call if you ask me. Mulberry has 100 mediums for $5.99. Phoenixworm.com has 400 medium worms for $26.00

So if you wanted the same quantity from mulberry, you would have to buy 4 orders of $5.99 which comes out to $19.96. Then you need to factor in priority mail, which is free from phoenix worms, and im not sure how much that would be.

I'm not sure either. But about six dollars is enough to save, still. Also, I'm NOT getting phoenix worms from e-bay!!!! It's just that I once got a cage from there, it was okay when it got here but I had to replace two of the doors and a lot of stuff in it was badly broken.

They actually have a vibrating dish on the market now.  You put the croaked bugs in it and turn it on and they jump around in the dish.  NO JOKE. Grin

yeah herpisphere mentioned that above...but he said that it didnt really work for his friend. I would be pretty sure that 6 dollars is less than the cost of the shipping, so you would be saving at phoenixworm.com. Well if you buy from the other place let us know how much shipping was  Wink

huh?  how do you figure that?

actually, mulberry is selling 4 containers for $19.99 and priority mail shipping is usually around $4.60

Dead bugs are really NO good. They nutritional value drops, they can harvest a bunch of icky bacteria, and they use lots of preservatives in those cans that aren't too good for anything. I'd just stick with some good ol' live crickets, roaches, or silkworms.

Don't know if this will help but I have a friend that has a beardie and she uses canned crickets because her parents wont alow live food.  Her beardie went after them like there was no tomorrow.
