Hey guys...as some of you may now from my other posts im getting a chahoua after christmas Grin !!!!! Well anyways i know that they are BIG insect eaters but that obviously cant make up their whole diet...and my parents wont allow any roaches or anything in the house because of the...ya know, roach thing  Roll Eyes

So my question is this: Is cgd a good diet for them? i know there is a leachie diet, garg died and a whole bunch of others but i have not heard of anything for chahoua? also...the insects ill be feeding would be crickets...i know its not much variation, so is there anything else i could feed besides roaches? Will they take to any worms?

Thanks for looking!

Yeah, all mine get fed CGD, along with the bugs. I have some that go nuts over bugs but others prefer CGD. I have noticed a BIG growth difference between the ones that will eat bugs and those that don't.

Thanks James! I think the worm that could climb the sides were the worms that petco re-named "calci-worms" but i forget their real names. Maybe it was silk worms? im pretty sure it was silkies...so i would order these worms, store them at room temp in a tub and put them in a bowl for them to eat, right?

Well i just read the testimonials on the website, and there is not one bad one! they all say how outstanding they are and beat any other insect by far. One of them answered my question and said that its great how they cant climb out of the bowl. The only thing i didnt find was how you care for them...like what do you feed them or use as a bedding? anybody know?

Yeah im definetly going to introduce them to my juvies, and see what my adult thinks of them. According to the comparison chart on their site, they have so much more calcium than any other, but they have something else that makes it a perfect balance so they dont overdose on calcium. I think im going to go with medium because the large was the span of an index finger (left to right, not down the length of it) and small i think would be TOO small.

when does a company ever use bad testimonials on their website?  not that phoenix worms are bad, i'm just saying...  Wink

they can climb out of the bowl if there is any moisture present.  when you take them out of the cup, roll them around on a paper towel to get all the "dust" off, and put them in a container to "dry out" for a little while, then feed them off.

I think the worm that could climb the sides were the worms that petco re-named "calci-worms" but i forget their real names. Maybe it was silk worms? im pretty sure it was silkies

calciworms are essentially the same as phoenix worms, and they are not manufactured by petco, but by timberline live pet foods.

I think im going to go with medium because the large was the span of an index finger (left to right, not down the length of it) and small i think would be TOO small.

probably a good choice, as the large are nearing the end of their life span (the dark ones are pupating) and if stored properly, they will eventually turn into flies.

Yeah, the phoenix worms are great, didn't have to much luck in getting everyone to eat them though. One batch I let sit to long and they turned into flies, UGGH they were disgusting little things! It gives me the creeps just thinking about it!

Just to make sure, you are planning on feeding the chewie CGD as well as the insects, right?
