Chahoua handling?
«
on:

I love the chahoua's. They are definately one of my favorite geckos. I was just wondering how they were with handling? Are they known to bite alot? Are they usually really quick and jumpy when being held? How much worse is the handling than cresteds?

With Reptiles handling is always a hit or miss. At times you have those that don't mind in the least when it comes to holding or poking around them. Then there's others that won't let you near them. "Uhem like Taz, right Anthony?"
As far as from personal experience I have a chahoua that i've raised from a couple weeks of age that at times is an absolute doll.
She doesn't mind me holding her and is an absolute treat when it comes to showing her off. Especially when it comes to kids that want to see some of my collection. She's "usually" the easiest to handle. Reptiles have their moods from day to day just like us. There are times i can safely place her on my shoulder while cleaning cages and there are other days i can't keep her on my hand.
I know someone personally that decided to get (specifically a male) chahoua because he had heard that they are generally the calmest of all the rhacs... good luck holding that little devil down. While it is usually the case seen among the more experienced breeders/hobbyists it is not always the case.
If your thinking about getting one... then get one to enjoy, keep, raise and watch grow. Don't let only temperament and ease of handling decide whether or not you want one. Good luck!
Renato
P.S. i have yet to be bitten by any of mine. Even my friends little monster.

Oh no, I would get one either way I was just curious because I would like to be able to hold it but either way I would get one. I love they, I think they are one of the coolest geckos I've seen.

Just curious... What's the cheapest anyone has ever seen for a chahoua? I think the cheapest I've seen so far was $250, but most were $300 or more.

Lol... I'm just worried that there is a reason that they are that low.... Nobody else sells them for that cheap so why would he go so low?

Lol, I know what your saying. I'm hoping to start breeding soon too. I've been looking at alot of males lately and if I got one I'd probably end up with at least one other female for now.

I have one chewie. He is regrowing his tail right now. When I first got him he bit the crap out of me, I think it was stress related. With in the next couple of weeks he settled down and is a complete doll. I just love chewies and I'm definitely going to try and get a pair in the future to breed them.

How are the bites with them? So now it's just as docile as any crestie you got?

The bite did hurt, but it was on a sensitive place, right between the nail and the finger. Other wise it really wasn't that bad. He is almost tamer than most of my cresteds. He just slowly climbs and jumps, almost like Eeyore, lol.

Chahoua are really cool geckos. They're more problematic to breed and less prolific than cresteds, but I always try to keep a couple around for fun. I had a couple of females that would bite at my hand when I reached into their cages, but I don't think it was on purpose because they were fine after the initial shock.

I have 3 pairs of Pine Isle Chahoua and one PI hatchling. 4 of the adults are super tame. They literally just sit on my hands when I take them out...they don't even jump. The other adult pair is super aggressive and try to bite my hands as soon as I reach in the cage....lil pitbulls I tell ya!
The hatchling tries to bite, but I'm workin on that
These are by far my favorite Rhacodactylus and I can't wait to hatch more out!
