Ok, I've heard this a few places, but I just want to make sure.  Is it true that the gargoyle diet is just as good, or almost just as good, for cresteds but a little more fatty?  So would it be a good diet to feed to breeders and juvies to fatten them up a bit?  Or is it better to just stick with the crested gecko diet?  I will always still feed crickets and baby food also.

Gargoyle Diet is just like Crested Gecko Diet, but it has more protein and less carbohydrates (in the form of sugars).  It's not as sweet as the Crested Gecko Diet, so your cresteds may not take to it as well.

You would most likely see your geckos eat less of it, which would definitely not work for fattening them up.

If you want to get a gecko's nutritional stores for breeding, I would reccomend an alternating diet of CGD and crickets, which contain a good amount of protein and dietary fat.

One thing to keep in mind is that fat geckos don't usually breed as well as fit geckos.  There's a difference between being skinny and malnourished and being in excellent shape (lean with good muscle tone).  Most of my breeder females are around 40-45 grams and they produce quite well.

Oh ok... Thanks alot.  Lol I didn't really mean I wanted to make them fat, I really meant it more towards the juvies but I decided to throw the breeder thing in there too.  So I'll just stick to the cgd and crickets then.  Thanks

I have also heard the extra protein will harm the cresteds livers. Don't know if it is true but I just don't feed mine gargoyle, always stick with the crested diet.

liver damage is something i never heard about either.

but i will agree with anthony, as i now have first hand experience with both foods.

i use clarks crested and gargoyle formulas. i recently got my first auric and for simplification, i figured i would try to use the gargoyle diet more often for both cresteds and goyles. well, as sweet as the clarks ive noticed a definate decrease in consumption of food by the cresteds on days when the gargoyle diet was in the tank.

now cresteds get crested diet and the auric gets his diet
i "might" even try to mix some crested diet into the goyle diet and see if his consumption increases. but i havent done that and still am not sure i am going to

Well if the crested diet is ok for the goyles, that sounds like a good idea.  If the cresties diet is sweeter than the goyle I'd mix a little into the goyles too as long as it was fine and everyone is saying they are pretty much the same stuff other that those couple of things. Sounds to me like they would eat more.

Excessive amounts of protein can be hard on the kidneys of humans, but that's usually seen in bodybuilders or people who are on an extremely high protein diet.  I've never heard of this being a problem with geckos, though.

I use crested diet for everything...cresteds, gargoyles, chahoua, eurydactylodes and even day geckos.
