R. leachianus is currently being evaluated for protected status by CITES......if they did you think the price will go up, and the same with all the rhacs, and i hear that Rhacodactylus trachyrhynchus is considered to be in danger of extinction!

no..! i hope not. If the price goes up for chewies, im done for! (well not really, im exaggerating) Im wanting one now but they are pretty expensive as it is!

As for the price going up due to them being protected by CITES, im not all that sure. i dont think it will mainly because the geckos are already IN the country, and they are being bred here, so its not like were constantly breeding them. I mean, if we were still importing them, then that changes everything.

P.S.---i have never heard of CITES so if this whole post os completly wrong because CITES has something to do with limiting breeding of reptiles in the states, sorry for the incorrect info.

Correct.  I don't think the prices will be effected too much on chewies, Leachies and certainly not cresties.  All of these animals are being produced readily in captivity at this point.  I think that the prices will hold fairly steady for them.  Most of us are not purchasing wild collected of any of these animals after all.  The breeders who collect wild caught stuff might have to pay a little more for their breeding stock but still I think there are enough animals out there to keep the prices from fluctuating.

Look at leaftails for example.  Since they have gone CITES there prices have gone a bit but not horribly.  These animals are not as readily produced in captivity as the Rhacs are.

I'm not quite sure that CITES is who decides if an animal is to be declared endangered/threatened/etc. or not. I'm pretty sure they would have a lot of pull, but not the sole decision makers. They control and set up the laws governing the trade of animals regarding imports and exports for sure. I'd have to read up on how CITES works again.

I don't think the prices would be affected too much at all. That was a good example of the Uroplatus genus and also the statement that the Rhacs. are bred inside the country already. Having so many in the country and more being readily produced...I can't imagine inflation of prices.

Yep.  I would figure out a way to get the money.  They are the most beautiful gecko in the world.  And I don't think that anyone who saw them would argue with me.

Are you talking about Naultinus sp.? I kinda wondered if that was the reason why more aren't around in the U.S. Makes sense if they have been protected by CITES and importing them is difficult.

Yep.  Different species have different CITES designation too.  ALL have some CITIES protection.

there's a breeder in canada working with the grayii species now.  they ship worldwide, so maybe if they're successful...someday they might be available to us!

lol. I still cant get over how cool they are! I wish they were more readily availabe....for now im settling for a chahoua....even now i have to wait a while....ugh.

I think they'll be going down in price in the next couple years actually. Regardless of their conservation status, they've been breeding out of control. Honestly, I think leachies are setup to be the next bearded dragon honestly. I mean, no UVB/UVA, no heat, no 10000000s of cricekts. Just dust and love

lechies i doubt as well because lechies and chewies have also become quite common in the exotic collection. maybe trachy's though cuz they are REALLY hard to find. I know one person who breeds them thats it.  i know like 100 crested breeders.
so unless you're tryin to get you're hands on a trachy then i would'nt worry about it.

This is true until someone comes up with a new morph of some sort.  Then you have the mad rush to purchase and then prices level off again.

i only have lil ones, and they are tame...but have seen mean ones as adults..so i guess they can be both....but they are worse than tokays...thay bite harder..
