I thought i might show what kind of lay box I use. I take a sterlite container, 6" x 5" x 3.5".? I cut a 2" diameter hole for cresties to come and go. Fill with bed-a-beast substrate. So far has worked extremely well, my cresties love the boxes and have laid lots of eggs!

Nice one. How often do they lay eggs? e.g 2 times a year. And how many in a clutch?

Thanks

I just thought I'd share what has worked for me on the subject-I use 5 quart rubbermaid containers for my nest boxes.  They're something like 12x8x6 inches by my estimation.  I looked for these smaller containers initially, but the larger box seems to be working fine.  The trick I used in mine was placing a flat piece of wood on the surface of the topsoil.

So far all the digging and laying has been done directly beneath the wood.  I've only had one clutch laid so far , but it was directly beneath the wood near the surface.  As large as the box is, the cover object seems to make it easier to find their eggs at least so far.  I'd imagine it's easier on the females too since they can just dig a shallow opening under the wood to feel secure and deposit their eggs.

No, lol. That's actually Polly. She's matched up with Atlantas renamed Jackpot, so I'm hoping for some super dal babies!

Thanks Anthony! Was looking for something that would work, but that was cheap since I have so many setups.

James, I'm just starting out breeding, but most of my females lay every 30-40 days. Also, females lay two eggs in a clutch.

Do you have any photos of this? I'd be interested in seeing your laybox setup.

I'm kind of tool ignorant for the most part, and i was just wondering what you used to cut such a smooth hole in the lid; did you sand down the opening?  Thanks, lacie

I was initially using lay boxes very similar.  I really wanted to have a natural looking set-up so now the whole tank is a lay box!!  I keep one of the corners really moist an the ladies all lay their eggs in that one corner.  It's a little inconvenient as far as finding the eggs but I can tell now just by looking at the geckos if they've laid eggs so I know to start digging!  I'm really tempted to switch back to a lay box and just bury it down into the substrate.

Hello!

What did you use to cut such a perfect hole in the plastic?

Thanks!

I can't speak for Cicada but if it were me I would use a holesaw. It's just an attachment to a power drill, as long as it doesn't slip it'll make a nice round hole like that. I would imagine that's what Cicada did, but I can't be sure.
