i thought i was having a problem with humidity and getting my babies to shed. i realized that everything in their cages is smooth. so i found some rough rocks and boiled them last night. they were placed in their cages last night. i sprayed them, too. by this morning, at least one baby got the shed off.

a folded up half a paper towel, sprayed down and placed on one side of the cage could work too...just throwing out some other options.
i use the rock method on some orchids i grew last year. i killed them for other reasons though. Sad

i am the one who came up with the folded paper towel thing. ( at least i was the only one posting about it for a while..) i keep the floor of the cage bare except for a soaking wet  folded papertowel. the humidity is not a problem. he just could not rub it off. now they have a rough surface to rub on.

do you always have a soaking piece of paper towel on the bottum of the cage? If so I would strongly suggest you put some dry paper towel down and just mist the cage more often. Because if the P.T. is always wet it will grow bacteria like no tomarrow, Which in turn could lead to some very unhealthy crested  Sad

this specifically would be for humidity issues...like you're going to be gone for a couple days or something where you can't spray the cage daily. or if daily just isn't enough.

That is a good Idea if you are going to be gone for a couple of days, unless you could have someone else mist it at night for you. but to just leave a soaking wet piece of paper towel is very unhealthy. ?If the are having shedding problems then you could put the gecko in a deli cup with a soaked piece of paper towel and he should almost always shed. If not then he probably is not ready to shed.

If you do leave the soaking piece of paper towel in the cage how often do you change it?

Cheers,
Luc

i change my wet papertowels every two days and i clean the cage at the same time. baby cresteds have shed issues and it's important that they get thru the first few months without having stuck sheds on their toes. Dry papertowels are fine for adults who know how to pull their sheds off, but a dry papertowel sucks up the humidity in a babies cage and prevents them from shedding properly. i leave it at one end of the cage, and i make sure the cage is kept clean and disinfected against mold, mildew or anything else.
