i saved up the money to buy an exo terra last year, but i'm kicking myself now that zoo med came out with this "new" tank. I really like the new one door design. but i have one question, does the black background in the back of your tank come with it? and if so, what is it made of because i'm not fond of the styrofoam backround that comes with the exo-terra.
i have found that the zoo med ones are a little cheaper, only about 5 bucks at most. But at this time, the zoo meds largest size is only 18"x18"x24" but the largest 24"x18"24".

I hate the exo-terra background. I had a huge problem with crickets getting behind it dying then stinking up the place. Zoo med does sell an optional background made out of cork I think, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet.

I've seen the new zoo meds, I personally like the Exo Terras better, personal opinion.

are you more prone to losing jumpers with the single door? i would think with the double doors you can block all but what you need for access.

If you have any geckos crazy like that, yes, I have my Tarentols Gigas in an exo terra, complete psychos, definately helps. Either way, I like the exo terras better than the zoo meds.

If you have fast moving geckos, I'd definitely go with the Exo-Terra...the two doors make it harder for fast geckos to get away on you.
If you need something that can be locked, I think this new Zoo-Med is great. I'm planning to get some for a few "slightly dangerous" arboreal snakes that need to be kept in a locked cage.

The exo terras can be locked. The two holes on the front, where you open the door, you buy a lock to go through those.

I do have a fast moving crested who attempts to get out and the double door of the exo-terra helps but I like how the zoomed doesn't have a large break in the front of the glass and it appears more visible. I would house any arboreal snake or show gecko in that rather than a exo-terra.

I used one for my frog. The crickets also eat the background if you don't pick them all out.
I have since removed the background and use it as a crestie tank.

humm....i really like the look/price of this tank. if mom lets me get a crestie i was going to get a *fish* tank and turn it on end, put a peice of glass on the bottom to hold the substrate in and get one of those lids that hinges in the middle. but i'm not so sure how visibility will be on that and with the cage + screen/lid + cage clips + glass, i'm thinking it'll come out to be only a tad less than this and i like this so much better. it would be ok for a single crestie, right? and just wondering, do you think that this(
http://pet-tech.com/our-products/magnaturals/small-rock-ledge.php
) would fit/work well in there, or would it overwhelm it?
thanks so much!
