It seems to me that a lot of people have a hard time describing their geckos using the "proper" morph and color terminology.? Using color descriptors like purple, pink, blue, and green are shunned?but my question is why?? I know that it is probably to try to keep some shady gecko breeders from advertising their gecko?s coloring over exuberantly--but what if that?s really the gecko?s coloration?? Perhaps, it?s all in the eye of the beholder.? Now without getting kicked out of the crested gecko community I would just like to point out that I think one of my geckos has some midnight blue tones.? I know that it would be more ?crested gecko correct? of me to say slate or maybe lavender?but I think it?s blue.? Other than that outlandish observation of color he is a pretty basic harly.? I just had to throw in my opinion on the color scheme of cresteds.?

I can't answer this question fully all I can say is what I've heard and perhaps someone can give you a better explanation. "Green" seems to be the biggest of the "taboo" colors and that is because some appear green. The reason it's said to be incorrect is because crested geckos don't actually have green pigmentation in their skin. So to call it green is wrong because it isn't green, it's just a mixture of other pigments that give it the green color. Which is why they call it Olive.

From what I understand, from some discussions on other forums, some of the colors people choose to use to describe their geckos just is not a possibility because they lack the pigmentation to create colors such as blue and green. ?There is no actual blue pigmentation in crested geckos which makes it impossible to have a "green" color since green is the mixing of blue and yellow. ?The purples also require the blue pigment. ?

I hope that helped a bit. ?I'm not sure if it's even really right. ?I do have an extremely olive male who could be described as green. ?I just went to take pictures and he's not fired up. ?As soon as I get a good photo of him I'll post it. ? ?
